IMPROVEMENT -|N BREASTPlN-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,908, dated July 18, 1876; application filed May 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern to the fixed pin, and it is moved in and out at the end of the case opposite to that of the fixedpin.
By moving the slide in one direction, the movable pin is drawn into the case, and the fixed pin can be inserted through or removed from the garment, and by moving the slide in the other direction the movable pin is forced into or through the garment at another place, and the brooch or other ornament is firmly secured to the garment. A spring prevents the slide slipping too freely, and a guard at the end of the slide prevents the finger being injured by the fixed pin.
In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective view, showing the brooch ready to be secured to the garment. Fig. 2 is a similar view, show ing the position of the parts when the brooch is secured in place; and Fig. 3 represents the parts of the fastening detached.
The case a may be the brooch or other ornament, and it may be ornamented in any desired manner, or said case may be secured to the back of the article. b is a pin projecting from one end of the case a, and said pin is &c., of which the part of a short bar that is secured to the case by riveting or otherwise. The under side of this bar is recessed, as at c, to receive the small plate-sprin g d. e is a slide, fitted to move back and forth within the case a, and at one end thereof is a pin,f, standing in line with the pin 1), but in the reverse direction; and at the other end is a finger-piece, h, to be pressed upon in moving the slide, and said fingerpiece acts as a guard to prevent the finger being injured by contact with the pin 1), and also prevents said pin b drawing out of the garment to which it is attached.
When the slide e is moved to the position shown in Fig. 1, the pin brcan be inserted easily into the fabric of the garment, and by moving the slide in the reverse direction the pin f is projected from the case, and enters the garment at a second place. The spring 01, bearing upon the slide 0, gives the necessary friction to prevent said slide moving accidentally.
The guard his secured to the slide 0 after the slide has been passed in the case, and the end of the pin-bar 1) acts as a stop to limit the motion of the slide in one direction, and the side piece from the guard h acts as a stop in the other direction.
I claim as my invention- The case a and pin 11, in combination with the slide 6, provided with a pin or penetrating point at one end and a guard at the other end,
and the spring f, bearing upon said slide, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
