COMBINED SLIDE-BUCKLE AND SKIRT-RETAINER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 545,841, dated September 3, 1895.
Application filed T une 1 2, 18 9 5.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID BAscH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York,
in the county and State of New York, have Combined Slide-Buckle and Skirt-Retainer, of which the following is a specification.,
The object of this invention is to provide a combined slide-buckle and dressretainer which will be of simple, cheap, and durable construction and quick and reliable in operation; and the invention resides in the novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a section along x Fig. l. Fig. 3 is' Fig. 4t is a detail view of a slide before its ears and teeth are bent into operative position.- Fig. 5 is a detail -view of a clamp-lever before its ears and teeth are 'bent into position. A
The slide or slide-buckle comprises the side or outer members l l and the center member or bar 2, with the cross-bars 3, these parts being so constructed and arranged as to pro- 3a. The members or side bars l, central bar 2, and cross-bars 3 are formed integral from a single piece of sheet metal, and the edges of the central bar 2 are formed integral with laterally-projecting ears 4, adapted to enter a coiled spring 10, as hereinafter explained. The edges of the parallel slots 2L and 3a, at one end thereof, are formed with teeth 5, which are bent to project laterally, as shown in Fig. 3. A lever or clamp comprising the arms 6 and 7, with ears 8 and teeth 9, is shown formed from a single piece of material. By
Serial No. 552,580. (No model.)
suitably bending or engaging the ears t and 8 into the coil l0 of a spring, the spring ends or portions 1l will hold the teeth 9 toward the teeth 5. In other Words, a spring-clamp is formed which is securely mounted so as not to become detached or dismembered.
The slide l and 2 being placed or adjusted on a belt 12 and the clamp or teeth 5 and 9 being made to engage a skirt garment or apparel 13, the latter will be securely held up, while a mere pressure suitably applied to the spring-clamp or to the lever-arm 6 will cause the teeth 5 and 9 to release their hold.
The device can be made plain or suitably enameled, ornamented, or embossed, or otherwise nished, as seen tit.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
*As anew article of manufacturea belt slide having the side bars l, cross bars 8, and central bar 2, constructed and arranged to provide the two parallel longitudinal slots 2a and 3a, and having teeth formed integral with a lower edge at each side of the central bar said teeth having a rearward inclination, and a spring controlled arm pivoted to the central. bar and having one end formed as a handle portion and made to extend toward the top of the slide, the lower end of said arm being provided with a toothed jaw made to engage the teeth on the slide, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID BASOH.
