ROBERT STUYVESANT, OF NEvV YORK, N. Y.
CUFF HOLDER AND ADJUSTER.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,534, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed January 18, 1886. Serial No. 188,993. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT STUYVESANT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful linproveinents in Ouff Holders and Adjusters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming partofthis specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my i1nprovenient, illustrating its use. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, taken through the broken line 00 as, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a'rear elevation of the same, shown detached. Fig. 4. is a sectional end elevation of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 3.
The object of this invention is to provide cuff holders and adjusters constructed in such a manner that the cuff can be readily moved in or out, and will be held securely in either position.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the cuff holder and adjuster, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A is a bar of thin sheet metahupon the outer end of which is formed a spring-catch, B, to engage with the shank of the stud O, that fast ens the ends of a cuff, D, to each other. The spring-catch B can be formed by slitting the end of the bar A. beveling theinner corners of the prongs thus formed, and enlarging the said slit at alittle distance from its outer end; or the spring-catch B can be made of spring wire, or other suitable material and soldered or otherwise secured to the said bar A.
The bar A slides in a T- shaped groove in the bar E, which has a cross-head, F, attached to its farther end. The bar A is kept from being drawn out of the grooved bar E-by a pin or projection, G, attached to or formed upon the inner end of the said barA, and
which projects through the groove of the bar 5 E, so as to engage with a spring, H, or other stop attached to the forward end of the said bar E in such a position as to cross or project over the groove in the said bar E. To the end of the bar E, upon the side opposite the groove, is soldered or otherwise secured the shank ot'the button I.
In using the device, the spring catch 13 of the bar A is made to engage with the shank of the stud O, the button I is buttoned into the button-holes of the wristband J of the shirt'sleeve K, and the grooved bar E is passed up the shirt-sleeve K, and can be confined in place by being passed through a loop. L, secured to the said shirt sleeve, \Vith this construction when the cuff is to be moved out of the way, it is pushed inward, the bar A sliding in the groove of the bar E. The cuff is held in place, when pushed inward, by the friction betueen the bars A E. The cuff is moved into its ordinary position by simply drawing it outward.
\Vith this improvement the cuff will be securely held in place, and can be easily and quickly moved out of the way or drawn into its ordinary position.
Having thus describediny invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a cuff holder and adjuster, the combination, with the bar A, having a spring-catch, B, at one end and a stop-pin, G, at its other end, of the bar E, grooved to receive the bar A, and having across-head, F, at one end and a stopspring, H, and a button, I, at its other end, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby a cuff can be securely connected with the wristband of a shirt-sleeve, can be readily moved in or out, and will be held securely in either position, as set forth.
