- HANGER Filed Oct. 4, 1927 Patented Mar. 24, 1931 UNITED STATES CHARLES A. PORTER, OF CUMBERLAND, MARYLAND HANGER Application filed October 4, 1927. Serial No. 223,975.
This invention relates to a garment hanger and also to improved means for holding folded garments that are to be wrapped or boxed and shipped or stored'so as to maintainsuch garments in the desired folded condition so that they shall notbecome creased or rumpled.
A further object is to provide a garment holding form which can be utilized as a hanger after the garment has reached its destination in the box or wrapper.
A further object is to provide such a form that a simple and easy manipulation will convert it instantly into a hanger. A still further object is to provide a form which has the configuration of the ordinary wrapping box. y l p A further object isto provide a hanger and form of extreme simplicity and inexpensiveness. f
With these and other objects in View as will hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully' set forth,
pointed out in my claim, andillustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan View of the-garment Ihanger when used as a-garment holding form, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device used as a hanger. Throughout the various figures of the to like parts.
The garment hanger is indicated as a whole at 10 and is of substantially rectangular configuration so as to occupy the usual wrapper or box provided for shipping garments, without allowing suflicient excess room inthe box so that the garment wrapped upon the form can rattle in the box. Q
Extending from the central portion of the form is a semi-circular portion 14 having an aperture 13 therein whereby the form can be suspended from a hook when it is desired to use it as a hanger. 7 Where this semi-circular portion 14; joins the periphery of the form two sloping scores 11 are provided which drawing, similar reference characters refer extend to each side of the form. The score preferably extends approximately half way through the stiff cardboard of which the hanger is made as shown at 16.
These score marks 11 define two flaps 12 155 one upon each side of the semi-circular portion 14. All the corners of the "form are rounded as shown at 15 so that there is no danger of damaging the garment wrapped upon the form. o v Y The operation of the device is as follows A garment for example a dress is folded about the form 10. At this time the flaps 12 are in the same plane as themain body portion of the form. r The dress which is held in position 205 by the form is then insertedin the box and due "to the form will be held in the folded position without any danger ofcreasingor rumpling the dress.
'' It is pointed out that this form. also be A used as follows: The dress is first folded once or twice and placed in the box. The form 10 may then be inserted between the top folds and the folds thereunder. The same W purpose is accomplished by either method.
When the box has reached it's'destination and thedress is removed it is then merely necessary to fold the flaps 12 into a plane substantially at right angles to the main body portion of the hangerand then the form 10 can be used as a hanger forthe' garment which was shipped or any other garment by suspending the device from a hook extending through the aperture13l Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the invention above I set forth without departing from the real purpose and spirit thereof, and it is the intention to cover by the following claim, any modified forms of structure or use of equivalents, which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim 7 V A form of substantiallyrectangular configuration having rounded corners, score lines extending from one of the longer sides of said form to the edges of the shorter sides of said form soas to define flaps, saidflaps being free i to swing into the plane of the body of the hanger and into a position at an angle to said body to serve as shoulder pads when the form is used as a hanger and the edges of said flaps being in substantial alignment with the edges of the body of the form when said flaps are swung into the plane of the body of the form.
