l IMPROVEMENT IN LABEL-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 179.476, dated July 4, 1876; application filed December 8, 1875.
thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a device to be attached to plates for fastening a bill of fare, or marks of any kind, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de-` scribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view, showing my plate-marker attached to a plate. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the plate-marker. Fig. 3 is a detailed section of a part thereof.
My plate-marker is struck up from a single piece of sheet metal, by dies or other suitable means, so as to form a handle, A, and three tines or prongs, B and C C, said tines or prongs being separated from each other by having narrow strips of metal cutout between them. The side tines G C are sprung upward,
and the ends of all the tines are bent substantially as shown in the drawing, so that when the marker is placed on the edge of a plate they will bind thereon, and the marker not be liable to fall off. The handle A is stamped so as to cut strips of metal that project on the under side, and form lips or hooks a a, in which a bill of fare may be inserted and held; or cards, strips of paper,`or other marks may be held therein, and upon which the articles and quantities desired may be lWritten when an order is given.
This plate-marker may be of any desired shape, plain or ornamental, and will be of great benet in hotels, eatingsaloons, &c.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described plate-marker, struck up or otherwise formed of a single piece of sheet metal, with the tines or prongs B and C G, and the handle A, with lips or hooks a, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
