Description

H. G. FLODIN Feb. 10, 192.1.
MEANS FOR REGULATING THE ELECTRODES IN REVERSIBLE ELECTRIC FURNACES Filed July 51, 1929 fwwfoa' Hinmw (IV'pYAV FLODIN ArTonNtY Patented Feb. 10, 1931 UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENNING GUSTAV FLODIN, OF STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN Application. filed July 31, 1929, Serial No. 382,467, and in Sweden April 30, 1928.
This invention relates to arrangements for regulating the position of the electrodes in tilting electric furnaces by means of cables connecting the electrodes with one or more regulators outside the furnace, Which may be of any known type, for instance hydraulic or electric regulators, winding drums, winches or the like.
The object of the present inven 10 provide for the tilting of the furnace without affecting the position of the electrodes and this object is attained by an arrangement in which the cables from the regulators pass over stationary pulleys mounted independently of the furnace to pulleys on the furnace in such a manner that the point he cables leave the said stationary p stantially on the tilting axis In the inpanying drawing.
Figure l is a vertical prdection or of construction of the means i out the method. and
Figure 2 is the same seen from shove.
A regulator l of a lnic-wn type, an Arearegulator for instance, mo tionary w The raw-lines or chains 2, 3 are at eitl side the fi pulleys l, 5 placed on a. static-her Within, a 1
further over discs 6, '4', S on the furna i iinally wound once or several times on tb. discs 9 and fixed thereto. Each of d cs 9 is fixed on a spindle 10, to which are fired two pulleys ll, 12 havi g lines 13 wound and fixed on them. These lines 18 pass over pulleys it and are lined to the contacts of the electrodes.
he distance between the pulleys e, 5 and the discs (3, '7' corresponds to the radius of an are 18 described by the point Where the lines leaving pulleys 4i, 5 make contact with discs 6, 7 so that the length of the line remains substantially unaltered between the said pairs of pulleys and discs during the movements of the furnace to and from tilted position.
Among other things, the invention offers the advantage of doing away with regulators fixed on the furnace, such regulators preventing an accessibility to, and control of the vault of the furnace, which control is necessary especially in furnaces for producing iron direct from ore.
lhe invention is not restricted to the form of construction described and shown, which can be modified without departing from the spirit of the intention, the charscteristi ture of which is the connection hctwec regulator and the furnace, respectiv 15. electrodes, by means of draw-lines or ch so arranged that they do not displace the electrodes during the tilting and return of the furnace.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire JO secure by Letters Patent is 2- 1. Arrangement for regulating the position of the electrodes in tihmg electric furnaces by means of cables connecting the electrodes with regulators o lo the furnace comprising pulleys mounted apart from said fur ace and stationary with respect hereto a d mounted on said fu nace, said cables being guided by said pulle s and discs and leaving; said pulleys at points substantially on the tilting axis of s id furnace.
2. Arrangement according to claim 1 prising soindles rotatably mounted on s: Iurnace, discs filled on said spindles and lastened to the furnace end. of said cables, pulleys fixed on said spindles and other cables fastened thereto and to the electrodes of said furnace.
In. testimony whereof I name to this specification.
HENNING GUSTAV FLODIN.
