Description

Fig.1.
WITNESSES E. M. P I K E. BUTTER-WORKER.
Patented; June 20, 1876.
INVENTOR ATTORNEYS N. PETERS, PHOTO-LXTMOGRAPHEFI, WASHINGTON D c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I l
EMERY M. PIKE, OF MGDONOUGH, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT I N BUTTER-WORKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,053, dated J une 20, 1876; application filed April 24, 1 875.
To all whom it may concerar Be it known that I, EMERY M. PIKE,-0f McDonough, in the county of Ghenangoand State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Butter -W'orkers; and I do hereby declare that the'following is a full, clear, and exact description of the'construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, makinga part of this specification, andto the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my'butter-worker, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view.
My invention has relation to butter-workers; and consists in certain improvements therein, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
A of the drawings represents a frame, supported upon legs of unequal length, so as to provide for arranging the tank in an inclined position, as shown. range the working-tank B upon wheels, in such mannerthat it may be moved back and forth with great ease. Upon one side of tank B I aflix a ratchet-bani], to aid in operating the working-rollers within the tank. The letters DD represent my working-rollers. One end of these rollers, respectively, has a journal extending into hearings in the extended v part of the frame, while their opposite ends are provided with pinions, the cogs of which engage with the ratchet-teeth of bar 0. RollerD is longitudinally and roller D transversely corrugated. It will readily be seen that by Upon this frame I ar- 7 or transverse thereto, as I may elect. The
letter 0 represents an eduction-pipe, arranged in the depressed end of the tank B, and f is a gutter attached to the frame A, of. such a length that during the reciprocation of the tank the edu'ction-pipe 0 shall always be over the gutter. devices is to provide means for the exit of buttermilk while the working process is carried on.--
It will be observed that the educt 0 leads into the gutter, and moves therein as the tank I is operated. It follows that the fluid will pass into the gutter without regard to theposition of the tank in its movements back and forth.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The frame A, having a trough or gutter, f, in combination with a reciprocating tank havin g an eduction-pipe, o, substantially as specified.
In testimony thatI claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
- EMEBY M. PIKE. Witnesses:
MILO V. CARR, LEVI SANFORD.
