IMPROVEMENT IN CABlNET-BEDSTEADS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,013, dated June 20, 1876; application filed January 6, 1876.

To-all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, DAVID A. GREEN, of Bushville, Bush county, and State ofIndiana,

- have invented a new and useful Improvement 7 this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet-bedstead when folded up. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, showing the several parts, with the foot section folded down, and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section, showing the bedstead extended.

The same letters are employed in all the figures in the indication .of the same parts.

The base A is formed of two end pieces and a connecting-frame, and supports the sections ,O and D, and contains a drawer, B. The

latter is so finished that, when drawn out, it will support the foot-section on legs B.

The two sections 0 and D are open boxes, pivoted to the base so as to permit them to be shut up, as shown in Fig. 1, forming a cabinet, or extended to form a bedstead, by folding them both down, as shown in Fig. 3.

When the drawer is pushed in it will prevent the foot-section from being turned down, because the corner of the section will strike on the top of the sides of the drawer. This serves to support the foot -section, and prevent accidents by its falling. Before it can be lowered, the drawer must be pulled out far enough to clear the corner when turned down.

The head-section D is supported in the following manner: A top piece, E, is hinged to the upper and rear corner of the head-section D. It may be finished with 2. looking glass, as shown, or otherwise ornamented. When the head section D is raised, it is sustained by a rod, G, pivoted to the'base and to the hinged top-piece E in such a manner that. as the head section is turned down, the rod will push out the lower extension E of the top piece E, and cause the latter gradually toassume the position shown in Fig. 3, where it is seen resting upon the extensions E. 1

The head section; may be adapted for use as an invalid-bed by raising it to any angle below forty-five degrees, and supporting it-in such inclined position by means of the adjustable slotted bar-F, which may be held in the required position by turning the thumb the head, and is not in the way. The headsection only needs to be held up by a hook.

What'I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,

1. In an adjustable folding bedstead, the

combination of the base A, drawer B, foot andhead sections 0 and D, and a hinged support, E E, for the latter, substantially as set forth.

2. In combination with the base A, and foot-section G hinged thereto, a drawer, B, on which one side of the section 0 is snpported when upright, and the drawer pushed in, and which, when drawn out, sustains said section in its horizontal position, substantially as set forth. V

3. In combination with the head-section D, hinged to the base, the swinging head or .top piece E, hinged tothe said head-section D, and the rod G, for swinging the piece E, to sustain the said head-section D when the said headsection D is turned down, and to make an ornamental finish when turned up, substantially as set forth. 7

4. In combination with the foot-section, the overlapping head section and swinging strip H, substantially as set forth.
