Description
Dec. V16, 1,930. H. P. EASTON, .JR
l GARMENT AND FUR STEAMER Filed July 9, 1929 v Patented Dec. 16, 1930 .UIT-ED STATES1 HENRY P. EASTON, Jn., or NUTEEY, NEW JERSEY GARMENT AND EUR STEMER 'Application led July 9, 1929.v Serial No. 377,018.
This invention relates to steaming devices and pertains particularly to a ldevice for steaming clothes and furs.
The primary object of this invention is to Y@provide a portable device which may have a steam line attached thereto and may be employed for steaming clothes or furs, the clothes being steamed preparatory to pressing, the furs being steamed for the purpose l@ of raising the hairs and generally improving the appearance thereof. Y The invention broadly contemplates the provision of an elongated casing having a rounded tube, a portion of which is perforated, the casing being removably positioned over a tray or pan to which is attached a faucet. One end of the casing has a pipe nipple opening therethrough to facilitate the attachment thereto of a steam pipe having 55@ connection with a suitable steam generating plant.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the ac- 25 companying drawing forming a part of the rpresent invention, with .the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing but may be ychanged or modified so so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention, as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the steamer embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view.
Figure 3 is a view in transverse section taken upon the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
numeral 1 indicates generally the bottom of the present steaming device which bottom, as shown, consists of a tray having the upstanding walls 2 which are inset slightly from the 45 edges of the bottom forming the surrounding flange 3.
Overlying the tray is an elongated hood 4:, thebottom of which is open to receive the walls 2, the edges of the hood resting upon 50 the llange 3 outside of the tray walls.
The Vtop of the hood 4 is rounded or of substantially parabolic cross sectional design, as shown in Figure 3, and the major portion of the hood wall from one end is provided with relatively closely spaced apertures, a f
section of the hood adjacent the other end being left imperforate, as shown. Formed integrally with the topmost portionof the imperforate section of the hood and opening therethrough is a pipe nipple or coupling (3 to which is swivelly connected, as at 7, one end of a flexible tube 3 carrying a second swivel connecticut) upon its other end tofa.- cilitate the attachment thereto of a suitable steam pipe (not shown).
Each end of the hood 4 is closed by an end wall 10 and extending through one'end wall and through they adjacent end wallof the tray is a draw-off faucet 11 which may be employed for removing condensed steam from the tray.
At each longitudinal side of the tray there are secured loops or eyes 12, each of which has attached thereto a spring'13, which, when the steaming device is placedV upon a support, such for example as a bench or ironing table, may be passed beneath the support and connected together in any suitable manner, as for example by hook members such as those shown. f
It will, of course, be readily understood that this steaming device, in addition to being secured to a flat supporting surface, such as a table or the like, may be hung up by engaging those eyes to which are attached the springs 13 over suitable supporting hooks.
From the foregoing description it' will be readily seen that with a device of the character herein described articles of clothing, furs, etc., may be` readily steamed and the device may be conveniently transferred from place to place. The steaming operation is carried out by placing the garment over the body or hood l and steam is admitted thereto and allowed to rapidly escape from theapertures 5 to pass through the garment. This rapid passage of steam through the garment blows the dust therefrom and at the same time kills any germs which might be in the fabric of the garment.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim is 1. A steaming device of the character described comprising an elongated casing of 5 substantially parabolic cross sectional design having an open bottom, a tray having upstanding Walls inset from the 4edges of the bottom thereof, said Walls being adapted to extend into the casing, means for introducing Y lo'steam into the casing, and means for dravving-off condensed steam from the tray, said casing Wall from one end throughout the ma jor portion thereof having steam outlet aper# tures, said steam introducing means being adacent the other end. Y
2. Asteaming device ofthe character described comprising an elongated casing of substantially parabolic cross sectional design :having an open bottoni, :a tray having upstanding Walls inset from the edges of the bottom thereof, said Walls being adapted to extend into the casing, means for introducing steam into the casing, means for drawing-off condensed-steam from the tray, said casing Wall from one end throughout the maj or portion thereof having steam outlet apertures, said steam introducing means being adjacent the other end, and means for suspending said steaming device from supporting elements. '3g 3. In a steaming device of the characterfdescribed including-a base, means for securing said base to a supporting table structure, comprising eye members secured to opposite sic e edges ofthe base, and spring members secured at-one end to certain of said eyes and adapted to be passed beneath kthe vsupporting structure `and connected at their other ends to adjacent eyes.
4. In'a steaming device of the character dem scribed including a base, means for securing "said base to a supporting table, comprising eye members secured to oppositeedges of the yb'ase,fa spring attached at one end to each of said eyes, and means carried by the other ends ofthe springs for connecting the same together beneath the supporting table.
"5. A steaming device, comprising an elongated 'casing having a rounded top surface and an open bottom, a detachable tray like ,-,0 'bottom normally closing the open bottom of the casing, meansfor introducing steam into the casing, and means for drawing off condensed steam'from said tray like bottom, said casing having the major portion of the rounded top surface from one end provided With steamoutlet apertures, and means for introducing steam into the casing adjacent the other end thereof.
lIn testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
HENRY P. EASTON, JR.
