Description
P. MEYER.
SASH -FASTENER.
Patented June 6,1876.

N4 PETERS. PHOTO-UTMOGRAPNER, WASHlNGYON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER MEYER, OF IOWA CITY, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT lN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 178,376, dated June 6, 1876; application filed May 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PETER MEYER, of Iowa City, in the county of Johnson and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Fastener, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front View, and Fig. 2 a Vertical transverse section, of my improved sash-fastener.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to such improvements in the sash-fastener for which Letters Patent have been granted to meunder date of June 22, 1875, No. 164,750, that the same may be more strongly and reliably attached to the sash, and retain it at any desired height.
The invention consists of a curved and perforated latch, that swings on a suitable pin or screw of a metal case attached to the sash, and is automatically forced by a suitable spring against the locking-pins of the windowframe, so that the hole of the spring-latch locks the sash at any desired height, as will be hereinafter more fully described and definitely claimed.
In the drawing, A represents the sash; B, the window-frame; O, a curved latch, with lower handle part and eye at upper end, by which it is hinged to a screw-pin, a, of a metallic case, 0, in which the latch is allowed to swing. The case 0 is rigidly attached by fastening-screws to the sash-frame, so as to takeup and resist the strain exerted thereon by the working of thelatch. Asuitable spring, D, acts on the latch O, and forces the curved part in outward direction against the window-frame. The curved part is perforated, so that it may engage or lock to pins 1), arranged at suitable distances on the Window-casing, locking thereby the sash in closed position, or holding it at any desired height. The lower handle part serves to carry the spring-latch back and release the pin when the sash is desired to be raised or lowered.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sash-fastener composed of a curved latchpiece, G, swinging by an eye at the upper end on a suitable pin or screw, a, of a metal case, 0, attached to the sash, and being forced outward by a suitable spring, D, of the case against the window-frame, to engage by its curved and perforated middle part over look ing-pins b of the window-frame, substantially as specified.
