CASEMENT-WINDOW-ADJUSTING DEVICE AND LOCK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY Gr. VOIGI-I'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casement-"Window-Adjusting Devices and Locks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to hardware and particularly to a casement window adjusting device and look.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention as applied to a window, said window being shown in section and closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view, said window being open. Fig. 3 'is a relatively enlarged sectional view.
The object of the present invention is to rovide an improved mechanism for accomplishing the locking of the easement window and the adjusting of the window to any desired position between and including the two extremes, namely, closed and fully opened.
1 represents a portion of a window casing.
2 represents a portion of a casement window hinged to the casing at 3.
4: represents a base-plate arranged to be secured on the ledge outside of the window.
5 is a rod hinged to the base-plate 1. The rod 5 has notches or perforations 66 in the same.
7 is a bracket carried by the outer side of the window.
8 is a swivel guide pivotally carried by said bracket 7 This swivel guide 8 has a passage of suitable cross sectional outline to receive the rod 5 and to permit the same, when free, to slide therethrough.
9 is a bolt arranged to enter the swivel guide 8 and extend into one of the notches 6 to prevent movement of the rod 5 in said swivel guide. The bolt 9 in this particular form is carried by a lever 10 hinged to a bracket 11 and normally pressed into the locking position by a spring 12.

14: is a finger piece or trigger which extends forwardly from the inner side of the sash of the window 2, whereby the lever 10 and bolt 9 may be operated even though the window be entirely closed. The bracket 11 preferably has a face-plate 15 which also preferably has an off-set ledge 16 standing directly above the trigger 14 whereby the user may more readily operate the trigger by placing the thumb upon the ledge 16 and engaging said trigger 14 with the forefinger. The free end of the trigger 1 1 is preferably curved or hooked downwardly so as to permit the operator to swing the window 2 to the desired angle after first withdrawing the bolt 9 from rod 5. By providing a sufiicient number of openings or notches 6, the window may be adjusted to any desired angle and there locked by simply releasing trigger 14:.
17 is a limiting stop at the free end of rod 5, which prevents said rod from being entirely withdrawn from the swivel guide 8.
What I claim is:
A casement window adjusting and fastening mechanism comprising a rod arranged to be hinged externally of the window and to swing above the lower part of the window casing, a guide for the rod arranged to be carried by the window externally of and above the lower edge, a locking device cooperating with the said guide for holding said rod against movement therein, said rod having a plurality of cavities toward its free end, said locking device comprising a tilting member having a locking nose arranged to engage in any one of said cavities, a hearing support for said tilting member carried by the window, and a finger-piece on said tilting member projecting from the inner side of said window and accessible for manual engagement.
