Beneath and etween the vhead 21 and the restricted lower portion of the sleeve a spring 23 is positioned which normally tends to force the pin upwardly in the sleeve so that the angled top face of the head 21 will position in and across the slot 16. A pin 24: is carried by the bolt 20 and limits its movement upwardly by contact with the lower edge of the sleeveil't' when the bolt is in one position or by engagement in a notch 25 formed in the lower edge of the sleeve when the bolt is in another position. The lower end of the bolt carries the pair of oppositely disposed arms 26 to facilitate grasping the same so that it may be pulled down against the tension of the spring 23.
When the device is desired for use to maintain the door in open position the handle members 26 of the bolt are grasped and the bolt rotated until the pin 24 moves into the slot 25. This permits the head 21 to move up to a position where the inclined upper face thereof extends across the slot 16. When the door 3 is then swung open the pivotally connected links 4 and 5 will separate to the position shown in Figure 1, that portion of the link 5 nearest the door swinging into a position parallel with the door and into the slot 16, engaging the head 21 of the bolt and forcing the same down until the opening 15 in the bar is brought into alignment with the interior of the sleeve whereupon the bolt will spring up and lock the links in position. Upon pulling down on the bolt 20 the link 5 will be released and the brace will be easily broken upon the application of a pullto the door, the angular formation of the link 5 being such that the attached end of the link 4 will be immediately swung away from the door so that the two links may smoothly fold one over the other to permit the door to be closed. When the door reaches completely closed position the link i will engage the back part of the U-shaped portion of the bracket 8 limiting the movement of this link.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that the door holder embodying the present invention will function efficiently to secure 'a door in the desired open position and that it may be economically constructed. Having thus described myinvention, what i claim is 1. A door holder comprising a pair. of pivotally connected links, one thereof being bent intermediate its ends forming an obtuse angle, means for pivotally securing the free end of the-angled link to a door, means for pivotally securing the free end of the other link to a door frame, said angled link being so disposed with relation to said door as to bring the angled portion adjacent thereto into substantially parallel relation therewith when the door is opened, said last mentioned portion of the angled link having an aperture formed therethrough adjacent the angle in the link, a spring pressed bolt mounted upon the door adjacent the pivotal connection therewith of the angled link for engaging in said aperture when the door is swung open, a handle having a stem rigid with the bolt for axially rotating the same when shifted longitudinally against the spring, and means for securing the bolt against return move ment.
2. A door holder comprising a pair of pivotally connected links, one thereof being bent intermediate its ends forming an obtuse angle, means for pivotally securing the free end ofthe angled link to a door, means for pivotally securing the free end of the other link to a door frame, said angled link being so disposed with relation to said door as to bring the angled portion adjacent thereto into substantially parallel relation therewith when the door is opened, said last mentioned portion of the angled link having an aperture formed therethrough adjacent the angle in the link, a transversely slotted sleeve mounted vertically on the door adjacent the point of connection therewith of the angled link designed to receive in the slot thereof the apertured portion of the angled link, a bolt slidable in said sleeve and having a head with an inclined top surface adapted to extend into the slotted portion of the sleeve, a spring housed in the sleeve and surrounding the bolt and normally urging the bolt upwardly, and a pin member carried by the bolt formaintaining the same in a desired position.
