The individual notches 12l and `12b are variably directed so that if plate 1221s positioned .so that a notch 12a or 12b is placed d1- rectly over the notch engaging portion on the lower arm 14a of the keeper 14, the sides of the so positioned notch willlie in substantial alinement with the'sides of the engaging portionA of the keeper. YVhen the plate has been brought to such a. position 1n respect to the keeper le, the plate may be dropped and the notch directly over the notch engaging portion on the keeper will engage with the ksaid portion to securely hold the plate and the storm sash to which the plate is pivoted. Due to the formation of the notches 12a and 12b and the notch engaging portion ofv the keeper, as above described very little relative movement between' the plate 12 and the keeper will be possible when such engagement is made and no rattling of the plate and the sash will take place when wind strikes the storm sash. The keeper will also eectnally hold the plate 12 so that wind, cannot unloosen the plate from the keeper and thereby permit the storml sash tobe raised and torn oil its hinges.
Preferably each side of the storm sash 9 is provided withfone of applicants sash holders. The window sash 8 having been opened and the arcuate plates 12 at each side of the storm sash 9 having been inserted in their respective keepers, the two plates can be grasped by means of the handle portions 12and the storm sash 9 moved either inwardly or outwardly. Engagement can then be made betweenV the notch engaging, portions of the arms 12b of the keepers 12, and any of the corresponding notches 12a or 12b inthe plates. The storm sash can accordingly be securely held in a plurality of positions. A
When it is desired vtov close or fasten the storm sash the plates 12 are again grasped by the handle portions 12c and the plates are raised and`pulled inwardly until the storm sash contactsfall thel sides of the window frame. The plates 12 are then swung upwardly to the dotted position shown in Fie'.

In this upper arms 1lof the keepers let to securely lock the sashin closedlposition; A camming action willtake place between the keepers 14; and the plates 12 as the plates areV upwardly swung so that the plates 12 will be held by detente 16 under` slight resilient pressure. yDue to the arcuate shape of the plates 12 the sash may be secured in any position and yet the guideway for the window sash ilA will lnot be obstructed by the free ends of the plate.
Applicants device comprises but few parts, is simply and cheaply constructed and may readily be assembled and placed on any standard type of window frame and storm window. The device is capable of use for securing any type of swinging panel in various adjusted positions. The device has been amplyv demonstrated in actual practice and has been found to be very successful and ecient for the purposes set forth.
it will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in form, detail, arrangement and proportions of the parts without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which generally stated consists in the matter shown and described and set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is: v
l. A swinging sash holder comprising an arcuate plate adapted to be pivotally secured at one end to the free end of a swinging sash, and a fixed keeper having an engaging portion, said plate having a plurality of spaced straight notches cut in its convexY edge, the sides of each individual notch on said plate being cut to lextendsubstantially in alinement with thesides of the engaging portion of said keeper when the sash and plateare swung so that the notch lies over lthe engaging portion, vwhereby any one of said notches may be engaged with the keepery to snugly lit the engagingportion thereof, and securely hold the sash from movement in a plurality of posi-tions..

In combination lwith a window frame and a sash pivotfed thereto, a device'for holding and fastening said sash comprising an arcuate plate pivoted to said sash and having a plurality of notched portions on its 'convex edge and a notched portion on its concave edge adjacent its pivoted end, a keeper'secured to said frame through which said plate is adapted to workand with which the various iirst mentioned notchedY portions are adapted to engage to hold the sash in a plurality of positions, a detent secured to said frame whereby when said sash is closed and the free end of said plate is swung toward said sash, the notched portion on thereoncave edge of said plate will engage with said keeper and lock said sash in said vframe and one of said iirst mentioned notched portions may beengaged with said detent to hold the sash in locked condition. f
