Description

M. LIBERMAN TROUSERS Filed March 15, 1930 INVENTOR. Zibermzzn g ifeyer A TTORNE Y.
Patented Nov. 4, 1930 PATENT OFFICE MEYER LIBERMAN, OF VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA TROUSERS Application filed March 15, 1930. Serial No. 436,203.
This invention relates to trousers and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of such class which is formed with a new and improved pocket for containing fountainpens, pencils, and the like, such pocket being so positioned in the thigh portion of the trousers that the wearer may conveniently place with in or remove from the pocket a pen or pencil when desired.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide trousers formed with a pocket for the purpose aforesaid, the opening into the pocket being constructed and positioned in a mannor to present an attractive appearance, and the walls of the opening being formed in a manner to provide for a firm frictional grip between the walls and the clasp of a pen or pencil.
A further object of the invention is to provide trousers formed with a pocket for the purpose aforesaid which is positioned in a manner to prevent any interference with the sitting posture of the wearer, and the walls of which are free to swing relative to the tr-ousers leg on which it is formed to enable the wearer to enjoy unrestricted movement in walking or exercising.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly describes, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the description and drawing are to be taken as illustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by tne scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing in which like numerals are employedto designate like parts throughout the several views: 0
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pair or trousers in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary elevation as viewed from the inside of a leg of the trousers.
Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary elevation as viewed from the outside of a leg of the trousers.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary section similar to Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates the right leg of a pair of trousers formed with the usual side seam 2, side pocket}; and hip pocket 4. Although the invention is herein illustrated and described in connection with the right leg of a pair of trousers of the long type, it is to be understood that the invention may be applied to trousers of the knicker type, and to either or both legs of the trousers, if desired.
Rearwardly of the side pocket 3, and below the hip pocket 4, the outer side of the trouser leg 1 is formed with an opening 5 which provides the entrance into my new and improved pocket indicated generally at 6. The opening 5 is horizontally disposed and the forward end thereof is spaced slightly to the rear of the side seam 2.
The opening 5 is provided by slitting the outer side of the trouser leg 1 and the portions of the latter above and below the slit are designated respectively 7, 9. That part of portion 7 bordering the slit is bent in wardly and upwardly to form an upper outer fold 8 and the bend provided by the latter and indicated at 20 constitutes the upper edge or wall of openin 5. That part of portion .9 bordering the slit is bent inwardly and downwardly to form a lower outer fold 10 and the bend 1 1 provided by the latter constitutes the lower edge or wall of opening 5. 85
Disposed lengthwise of and opposing the inner face of the outer side of the trouser leg 1 is the front wall forming member or element 12. The upper end of member 12 is bent outwardly and downwardly to provide a lower inner fold 11 which opposes the fold 10. The bend provided by thefold 11 is indicated at 27 and is positioned above the bend 14. Positioned against the forward face of member 12 and overlapped by fold 11 is a reinforcing element 13. The leg portion 9,
folds 10 and 11, member 12 and element 13 are secured together by a row of stitching ALL-l ment 13 are secured together by a row of stitching 24 positioned below the row 15.
Opposing the rear face and extending above member 12 and opening 5 is the rear wall forming member or element 21 of the pocket. lnterposed between the upper part of member 21 the leg portion 7 is a backing member 18 having its lower portion bent outwardly and upwardly to provide an upper inner fold 17. The bend provided by the fold 17 is indicated at 28 and'which seats upon the bend 20. The fold 17 opposes the fold 8. A rrangcd against the outer face of the member 18 and overlapped by the fold 17 is a reinforcing element 19. The folds 8, .17, leg portion 7, element 19 and members 18, 21 are secured. together by a row of stitching 22. The members 18, 21 and the leg portion are secured together by a row of stitching 25 arranged above the row 22.
The members 12, 18 and 21 are of greater width than the length of opening 5. The members 12, 21 and the members 18. 21 are secured together by a row of stitching 23 disposed at the sides and bottom marginal portions thereof.
As more clearly shown in Figure 5, the bend or folded edge 27 between the wall 12 and its fold 11 is normally in contacting relation with the bend or folded edge 28 between the reinforcing member 18 and its fold 17. The elements connected together by means of the row of stitching 15 provide an enlargement below the opening 5 for engagement by clips, such as 29, by pens or pencils, such 30. The elements connected together by means of the row of stitching 22 provide strong and durable construction above the opening 5 and also provide the trouser leg above the opening 5 with the same appearance as below the opening. It is to be noted that the members 12 and 21 of the pocket 6 are secured to the leg 1 in a manner whereby the pocket 6 may freely swing during movement of the leg to prevent the contents of the pocket from interfering with or injuring the person of the wearer of the trousers.
It is thought that the many advantages of a garment in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood. that changes in the size, shape and ar rangement of parts-may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a pocket construction for trousers, the combination of a trouser leg provided in its outer side with a horizontally disposed opening, the portions of said side borderin said opening inturned to provide an upper and a lower outer fold, a backing member opposingthe inner face of said side and having its lower portion outturned to provide an upper inner fold, a vertically disposed front wall formin member opposing the inner face of said side and having its upper portion outturned to provide a lower inner fold, a vertically disposed rear wall forming member opposing the rear faces of said members, a pair of reinforcing elements overlapped by said inner folds, the bend provided by the upper inner fold positioned below the bend provided by the upper outer fold, the bend provided by the lower inner fold positioned above the bend provided by the lower outer fold, the beans provided by the inner folds contacting, the bends provided by the outer folds being spaced from each other, means for securing said side. the upper folds, backing and rear wall forming members and one of said elements together, means for securing the lower folds, front wall forming member, the other of said elements and said side together, means for securing said wall forming members together, and means for securing said side and backing and rearwall forming members together, and said inner folds opposing said outer folds.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
