GARMENT Filed March 5, 1930 HWY ATTORNEYS I INV NTOR miwfimlu Patented May 26, 1931 UNITED STATES.
NELL Q. DON'NELLY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSC'URI "GARMENT Application filed March 3,
' and attractive in appearance, becoming to the wearer and still lends itself to commercial production on a large scale. The garment is easy to put on and take ofi", and simple and eflective in its fastening means. The invention may be embodied in a number of various forms and designs without departing from the basic idea.
Another object is the provision. of a pajama garment requiring only one fastening in the back and one on each side, rendering it easy to get into and out of, and when on the wearer and fastened it allows great freedom of movement without disarranging the garment, thereby insuring a constant neat appearance even after wearing several hours when actively engaged in housework, strenuous exercise or wearing on the beach.
A further object of this invention is the provision of such a garment which includes a waist portion "and a trousers portion, the waist portion being of wrap-around and tiearound construction and the front of the trousers portion being preferably secured permanently to the waist portion at the front, the back or seat flap of the trousers being provided with an elastic for fitting purposes and having a detachable connection with the waist portion of the garment.
To the accomplishment of the. foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and then sought to be defined in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and which shows,
merely for-the purpose of illustrative disclosure, a preferred embodiment of my invention, it being expressly understood, however, 5' that. various changes may be made in prac- 1930. Serial No. 432,601.
tice within the scope of the claims without digressing from my inventive idea."
In the drawings- Fi re 1 represents a perspective view of one orm of garment constructed to embody my invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3'is a rear elevation thereof.
Figure 4'is a vertical longitudinal cross section of the garment taken on line 4'4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 represents a rear view of the garment with the. waist portion thrown open to disclose the trousers support.
Figure 6 represents a transverse horizontal cross section taken on line 6-6 of Figure 4.
Referring now to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the blouse or waist portion of the garment as a whole and 2 the trousers portion of the garment as a whole. These parts are preferably secured or connected to gether at the waist and at the front only, as at 3. Of course, it is to be expressly understood that instead of being made of separate pieces of material or elements, the parts may be made of one piece and permanent connection at the waist provided in that fashion, if desired.
The waist itself is composed of the front piece or panel 4 and the side or back pieces or panels 5 secured thereto. The front panel is extended upward as at 6 to connect with the top edge of the side or back panels 5 and also to provide room for the armholes 7. The back or side panels are of such shape as to fit across and cover the back of the wearer,
and in the form shown, extend diagonally in.
a sort of a crossed arrangement. A single fastening means 8 is all that is necessary to connect the side and back panels at the back of the neck. .Each of the side or back panels is provided with an elongated and extended belt element 9. These belt elements are designed to extend from the rear of the waist back panels is provided with the slot or open- 7 ing 10 to permit the passage therethrough of one of the belt elements 9. This construction gives complete and ready adjustment of the waist portion of the garment to various sizes and types of figures.
As stated before, the trousers element is either secured to the waist element at the front or else made integral therewith to form a one-piece garment. This trousers element has the rear or seat flap 11, which is preferably provided with the elastic material 12 within a hem 13 along the top edge thereof and the upper corners of this fla are adapted to be supported by and secure to suitable fastening means 14:. In the form shown these members 1 1 each include a tape 15 connected to the inside of thefront of the waist or blouse portion and having a button or other suitable fastening'means 16 on the end thereof, the flap being provided with a buttonhole 17 for each fastening means. Of course, anyother form of complementary fastening means may .be provided.
The waist portion at the rear is of suficient length to overlap the rear portion of the trousers construction and the waist part of the trousers construction, being provided with the elastic, will insure that part cf the arment being held up in proper position at a ltimes.
This garment is designed for various uses such as home use for work and lounging purposes to take the place of loun 'ng pa amas and beach pajamas or in fact a most any informal or domestic use. This garment will fit various sizes and figures without modification as the adjustable belt of the waist portion and the resilient waist band of the trousers portionwill permit considerable variation.
in any one size of garment. It is neat and attractive in appearance and may be made in various designs and combinations of material, and is practical in that it is a cover-all garment completely covering the person and the under garments of the wearer. However, it is cool and comfortable due to its simple construction and the minimum number of parts necessary. The manner in which the trousers are supported by tabs attached to the front of the blouse contribute to the comfort and adjustability of the garment. This same adjustability is carried out in the type of back closing, that is, one side passing over the other and through the slot in the bodice part. The elastic at the waist line of the back part of the trousers makes the waist line adjustable to many types of figures.
Therefore, through the manner of joining the blouse and trousers in the front by tabs; the particular type of back closing; and. elastic at the waist line of the back of the trousers, this garment is not only comfortable but adjustable in the bust, waist line and hips and, consequently, will fit a great many types of figures withoutany alteration. 3
