Description
T. S DECKER MEN S TROUSERS Jan. 4, 1949.
Filed May 5, 1945 Patented Jan. 4, 1949 UNITED STATES PATE OFFICE IVIENS TROUSERS Ted S. Decker, Chicago, Ill., assignor to Society Brand Clothes, Inc. a. corporation of Illinois 2 Claims.
This invention relates to the constructional features of mens trousers, and more particularly to the pocket construction thereof.
Among the objects of the present invention is to provide a pencil and/or a pen pocket for a pair of trousers wherein a pen or pencil may be readily inserted and held in position without interfering with the t of the trousers or without restricting the movements of the wearer of the trousers in sitting down, running, or walking.
Yet another object of the invention resides in providing a side pocket of a pair of trousers with an enclosed pocket into which a pen or pencil may very easily be inserted and maintained in position, and from which the pen or pencil is readily accessible in such a manner that the iit or appearance of the trousers is in no way aifected.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from a perusal of the following specification when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of trousers with the pencil pocket being shown in dotted lines as applied to the right hand side pocket;
Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the same;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on the line 4 4 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged view of the mouth of the side pocket, showing the pen and pencil projecting from the pencil pocket; and
Fig. 6 is a view of the pocket piece.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, a pair of mens trousers is shown at 2 as comprising a waistband 4, the front portion 6, and the side seam 8 which extends from the waistband downwardly as indicated at I0. In addition the usual type of side pocket is illustrated in dotted lines as comprising the front inner edge I2 thereof which at the point I4 meets the curved bottom portion of the pocket I 6 which bottom portion extends upwardly along the dotted 1in-e I8, forming in eiect a continuation of the side seam I 0. The mouth of the side pocket is shown at 22. As shown in Figure 3 the side pocket is formed by the usual folded piece of material comprising a back lining piece 24, a front which is folded along the line I2 of Figure l, and the outer wall 28 of f the pocket. The rear wall 24 of the pocket is anchored as at to the side seam and the terminal of the front wall 2B is anchored to the wall 22 forming the mouth of the pocket. The fabric of the trousers, as shown at 32, overlies the fabric 2 or lining of the pocket 24 as shown at 34, the two being held together by the row of stitching 35 and 38. The foregoing comprises the standard type of side pocket.
In accordance with the disclosure of the present invention, a relatively elongated, narrow pen and/or pencil pocket is stitched or otherwise attached to the inner face of the front wall member 28 of the side pocket. In general it comprises the pocket piece 4I] which is shown in Figure 6, and which is folded over as at 42, 44 and 46 and is stitched as at 48 and 50 to spaced portions of the wall 28 of the pocket. These lines of stitching 48 and 50 form parallel lines and are united by a horizontal bottom line of stitching 52 to form the generally rectangular pocket, the upper end of which is left open. It is to be noted that this pen or pencil pocket in general lies adjacent the rear seam I8 of the pocket and extends generally parallel to the rear wall 24 and is located somewhat vertical and substantially parallel to the side seam Ill of the trousers. The mouth 54 of this pencil pocket is spaced somewhat inwardly of the mouth 22 of the side pocket but sufciently close thereto and in registration with the mouth 22 so that a pencil or pen, or both, may be readily inserted in the pencil pocket, the clip 58 of the pencil 60 and the clip 62 of the pen 64 gripping the wall portion 60 of the smaller pocket. If desired, this pen pocket may be provided with divisional points formed by intermediate vertical lines of stitching so as to form a center or divisional pocket for the pen, and also one for the pencil.
It will be appreciated that by arranging the pocket in the manner illustrated, to-wit with the longitudinal axis of the pocket disposed at the rear portion of the side pocket, and substantially vertically and parallel to the rear seam I8 of the pocket, and parallel to the side seam I0 of the trousers, that as so located it will not interfere with the proper t of the trousers and will not interfere with the sitting movement of the wearer or any walking movement. In fact, the rigid pen and pencil will extend substantially down the side of the leg of the wearer and will not be seen or will not be observable. Yet at the same time the heads of the pen and pencil are always adjacent the mouth of the pocket for instant removal.
Obviously the invention is not limited to the specific details of construction disclosed herein but is capable of other modifications and changes without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
The invention is hereby claimed as follows:
1. A pair of trousers having the usuel pair of front trouser pockets disposed at the side of the trousers with the mouths of Athe pockets substantially vertical and disposed substantially as an upper continuation of the side seams of the trousers, and an elongated, relatively narrow pocket adapted to receive a pencil or pen and formed in association with the inner wall of one l of said side pockets, the mouth of said second 1 pocket being disposed inside said rst named pocket and adjacent to the mouth thereof, said second pocket extending downwardly and Wholly i Within the confines of said rst named p oclget and the wall of said second pocket having a freeA edge at the mouth of the rst pocket spaced from the walls of said rst named pocket and adapted to v be received between a pencil or pen and a clip i l mounted on said pencil or pen.
2,. A pair of trousers having side pockets and a relatively deep narrow pocket disposed wholly within one of said side pockets with its longer dimension generally vertically disposed, mouth of said deep narrow'pocket being prothe vided along a narrow edge thereof and being disposed inside said side pocket adjacent to and` accessible through the mouth of said side pocket, i
and the wall of said deep narrow pocket having a free edge at the mouth of the side pocket, spaced from the walls of said side pocket and adapted to be received between a pencil or `pen and a clip mounted on said pencil o1: pen.
