Description
I Se t. 23, 1930. s BELVEAL 1,776,575
FASTENER Filed Feb. 12. 1930 Invenior Sherman Bell/ea! A iiorney Patented Sept. 23, 1930' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SHERMAN BELVEAL, OF DELPHOS, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR OI-i ONE-HALF T LLOYD I.
BELVEAL, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI FASTENER Application filed February 12, 1930. Serial No. 427,795.
Another important object of the invention is to provide tensioningmeans for'suspenders for causing the suspenders'to automatically adjust themselves to the body of the person wearing the same.
These and numerous other important ob-' I jects and advantages of the invention will more readily become apparent to the reader after a consideration has been given to the following specification and claim.
In the drawings of the novel fastener.v V V Fig. 2 represents an edge elevational view of the novel fastener, I i r Fig. 3 represents a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the present invention includes a substan tially rectangular-shaped acket 5, although of substantially thin construction.
One end of the jacket is provided with a pair of openings to receive the ends of a bail 6, the ends of the bail being bent outwardly against the inner side ofthe acket so as to jacket.
The opposite end of the jacket is provided 7 Figure 1 represents aside elevational view.
prevent displacement of the bail from the of the U shapedmernber 7 v legs of this button engager 11, fiareoutward- 1y so as to permit the button to be engaged thru the engager, after which the reduced portion thereof is engaged between the but ton and the garment, in substantially the manner shown in Fig. 1.
Obviously, when any extraordinary stress is imparted to the suspender, the same will be taken up'by compression of the spring 7 and the extension of the device shown in Fig. 3.
While the foregoing description has speclfically set forth the invention, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, and materials may be resorted to without departing from the. spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
A fastener of the character described comprising a jacket, a bail at one end of the jacket, 'aU shaped member arranged within range d on the the said jasket, a compressible spring-arsaid U-shaped member and being adapted to impinge against the inner side of the jacket to maintain the U-shaped member retracted, said j acketbeing provided with openings to permit the leg portions of the said U-shaped member toprotrude ex.-
teriorly thereof, and a button engagersemember.
In test mony button engager ll. The end portions of the curedto the free ends of the said U-shaped whereof I affix my signature. 1
