IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTON-LOOPS.

Specification forming part 'of Letters Patent No. 177,442, dated May 16, 1876;' application filed I December 30,1875.

' New York city, county, and State, hzwe invented certain Improvements in Button-Loops,

of which the following is a specification This invention has for its object the construction of a button-loop, with a springtongue, which rests upon the button at its cen-' ter, or uponits rim, in sucha manner as to prevent it from becoming disengagedwhen hanging loosely upon the button. This I do by the arrangement of the spring-tongue hereinafter set forth, and shown in the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 shows the button loop, formed of sheet metal, having the tongue 0 formeding the loop and tongue-piece at opposite ends of the metal, and bringing them into position by folding at the center, causing the tonguepiece to lap overthe loop; or the whole may be made of wire, and the required spring of the tongue provided by coiling it about a portion of the frame at the top.

It will be seen that when the button is entered beneath the spring-tongue and passed downward into the loop, theend of the springtongue rests upon the rim of the button, or within the cavity at its center, retaining it in place, and preventing it from becoming detached when not drawing upon the Suspender, stocking-supporten or other article to which it may be attached.
