1mm) STATES PATENT OFFICE. a
CHARLES H. COREY, OF SAN JOSE, OALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,098, dated May 9, 1876; application filed March 13, 1876..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. COREY, of San'Jos, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Winker-Stay, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a planyiew of my improved winker-stay. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of its ends.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre-- ends of the arms or. branches of the. stay A are formed shoulders or, which are placed within the leather, so as to rest against the stitches, and thus be held in place without having the stitches pass through the ends of the stay. This construction prevents the said ends from being cut, and thus weakened and made liable to break. The rubber stays will not become limp andlose their shape from use, or from being wet, and will thus be more durable, while being less expensive to make than the ordinary leather stays now in use.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A winker-stay, A, for harness, made of rub- 'ber, substantially as herein shown and .de-
scribed.
CHARLES HARRIS COREY.
