Description
JQE. HARDING sumas PLUG Filed-April 15, 1929 NM. E.
Hardzn INVEN TOR Jamai E June 24, 1930.
head portion 11 is removed from the barrel 10, carrying with it the inner barrel 12 and bladder 13. The syringe plug is then forced into the barrel l0, the forward end thereof engaging the shoulder 34 of the plug. It will be understood that the diameter of the body portion 31 is such as to fit snugly within the barrel. The plug'carriesthe bladder or fountain thru its connection with the portion 30 in a manner similar to the mounting of the bladder 13 on the tubular barrel l2 of Figs. 1 and 3. Although it is preferable to utilize the shoulder 34 of the syringe plug to limit the insertion of theV plug into the barrel 10, this shoulder may be eliminated to facilitate manufacture, thus.
making the maximum diameter of the plug that of the body portion 31 thereof. The nozzle portion 35 is tapered and is in section, like that of the plug shown in Figs. 2and 3, a section of a cone, an oblate, or a prolate spheroid.
The advantages of the plug construction shown in the above are believed to be obvious. Briefly, the plug may be carried as an adjunct to the usual self-filling fountain pen. By removal of such parts therefrom as above indicated, and upon insertion of the syringe plug, the pen may be quickly converted into a syringe and is capable of all the uses to which a syringe is adapted to be put. The syringe plugris inexpensive in manufacture and is suiiiciently small to be carried in a pocket or with a medical kit or the like. Y
It will be seen that the several objects of the-*invention are achieved and other advantageous results attained. AsV many `changes could be made in carrying out the above invention, without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter n contained in the above description or shown y inthe accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limitlng sense. 1
I claim:
1. An attachment for converting a fountain pen into a syringe consisting of a substantially cylindrical plug having a body portion of a diameter snugly fitting within the pen barrel upon removal therefrom of the pen nib and feed plug, and having a 2. An attachment for converting a fountain pen into a syringe consisting of a plug' having a substantial cylindrical body por-V tion adapted to lit snugly within the pen barrel upon removal therefrom of the pen nib and feed plug and a tapered nozzle portion extending therefrom, said portions having a shoulder formed therebetween, the plug being provided with a longitudinally extending bore delivering thru said nozzle.
3. An attachment for converting a fountain pen into a syringe, a plug having a substantially cylindrical body portion of a diameter to snugly t within the pen barrel upon removal therefrom of the pen nib and feed plug and a portion of reduced diameter at one side thereof about which a bladder member of the pen is adapted to be secured, the plughaving a tapered nozzle portion extending from the other side of the body portion, the plug being provided with a a barrel of a fountain pen, a plug havingk a cylindrical body portion of .a diameter to fit snugly within said barrel, the body portion terminating in a shoulder, the plug having a tapered nozzle beyond said shoulder adapted to extend beyond the barrel, the plug being provided with a central longitudinal bore communicating with the interior of the bladder and delivering to the nozzle. p
6. A syringe comprising, in combination, a barrel of a fountain pen, a plug khaving a cylindrical body portion of a diameter to lit within the barrel, a cylindrical portion of reduced diameter at one end of the body portion, and a tapered nozzle portion at the other end thereof, and a bladder member adapted to be secured about said portion of reduced diameter, the plug having a longitudinal bore communicating with the interior of the bladder member and deliver- Ying to the nozzle member.
Signed at Lyme, Connecticut, this 31st tapered nozzle portion extending therefrom, ,l
the plug being provided with a longitudinal bore delivering thru the nozzle portion.`
