This invention relates to filling replenishing looms andis more particularly directed to means for parting the spent filling at a point between the shuttle ends and preferably adjacent the shuttle eye on call for replenishment of filling.
It is well known to those skilled in the art that when replenishment of filling is to be effected, the old fillin extends from the cloth selvage through the s huttle-eye to the bobbin about to be ejected, and various mechanisms have been devised to part this old filling in such manner that it may not be carried into the shed or become tangled with the incom-' mg filling.
- Among these prior efiorts some mecha-' msms have been devised to part the spent filling adjacent the shuttle eye, and in some cases the parting mechanism has been supplied with clamping instrumentalities for withdrawing the end of the filling leading to the cloth selvage in a frontward direction out of the shuttle box, so that when the substantially denuded filling carrier or bobbin is ejected from the shuttle during replenishment, all
liability of carrying the spent filling end into' the shed has been avoided. 1

When the spent filling is parted adjacent the shuttle eye through the medium of'the transferrer movement, the incoming filling carrier or bobbin is liable to displace the outgoing filling carrier 7 or bobbin before the spent filling is parted, and in some cases breakage of the spent filling is liable to occur. One of the ob ects of the present mvention 4 is to insure parting of the spent filling prior through the action or movement of the transvferrer, the mechanism has precluded the use of a transferrer having a bobbin tip engaging portion and also has precluded the use of a bobbintip guide for directing the tip of the bobbininto the shuttle.
In accordance with the present invention, the parting means for the spent filling is made effective to part the filling adjacent the shuttle eye through the movement of a bobbin guide which is displaced or moved by the incoming filling carrier as it leaves the hopper, thereby doing away with the complicated and congested condition of the mechanismand permitting-the use of a transferrer' having a bobbin tip engaging portion and a bobbin tip guide for directing the tip of the bob bin. into the shuttle.
' The invention and new features thereof and novel combination of parts will best be made clear from the following description and the accompanying drawings of one good practical form of the invention.

In the present instance of the invention, the bobbin guide 10 is carried by an arm 11 pivotally mounted on the hopper stand at 12- and capable of swinging or yielding movement. The bobbin guide 10 has a bevelled or inclined portion 13, so that upon movement of a filling carrier or bobbin from the hopper the bobbin guide 10 will be displaced or moved, in the present instance, rearwardly.
Connected to the arm 11 is a light spring 14 normally tending to hold the arm 11 and the bobbin guide 10 in position with the inclined portion 13 of the bobbin guide extending beneath the filling carrier or bobbin then in transferring position. In order to limit the swinging movement of the arm'll an adj ustable stop 15 may be employed, all as more fully described in detail in the patent to Ed ward C. Burnham and Harry A. Davis,'l\ o. 1,626,505, dated April 26, 1927 V Mounted upon the hopper stand is the transferrer shaft 16 having the transferrer l'T mounted thereon and normally held in raised position by a spring 18. The transferrer 17 has a bobbin head engaging portion 19 laterally from which extends the arm 20 carrying a bobbin tip engaging portion 21, the construction being such that upon actuation of the transferrer the bobbinin position for transfer in the hopper will be engaged at its head and tip portions for transfer to the shuttle during replenishment.
Secured to the transferrer shaft 16 is the baclrwardly extending arm 22 having-pivoted thereto at 23 the bobbin tip guide 24 for guiding the tip of the bobbin into the shuttle during transfer.
In accordance with the present invention the spent filling is to be parted between the ends of the shuttle or preferably adjacent the shuttle eye, and as shown the front wall 25 of the shuttle box is provided with an opening 26 into which the parter may extend to engage and part the spent filling on call for replenishment.
In the present instance of the invention the'front wall of the shuttle box is provided with an inclined opening 27 similar in this respect to the patent .to Alfred E. Stafford previously mentioned, whereby if desired the parting means when provided with a clamp may withdraw the filling frontwardly from the shuttle box after it has been parted and over the top thereof. This construction constitutes a good practical form of the invention in these respects but obviously the invention as will more fully appear is not restrict- 30. As hereinbefore indicated, the parting means may be of any usual or desired char acter but as shown in the present instance of the invention it comprises cutting members 31 and 32 pivotally mounted at 33 upon the slide 30. In most cases it will be desirable to provide the parting means with a thread clamn and to this end the cutter mem- L o Q I ber 32 of the parter 1s faced with friction material 3 1 indicated 1n F1 3 wh1ch in a 2 7 cooperation wlth the compamon clamp 35 serves to clamp that portion of the thread leading to the cloth selvage when the spent filling has been parted.
In order that the thread parter and clamp as shown may occupy an operative position in the opening 26 of the shuttle box when it is move-d rearwardly, as will be hereinafter described, the slide 30 is provided with an adjustable stop 36 which by contact with the lay limits'the rearward movement of the parting means.
Mounted for rocking movement on the transf rrer shaft 16 is the yoke member 37 having a downwardly extending arm 38 pro vided with a slot 39 which engages a pin 40 extending from the slide 30, the construc-.
tion being such that should theyoke member 3'? be turned upon the transferrer shaft 16 in a clockwise directlon, 1n the present 1n- .stance, the slide 30 will be moved rearwardly into operative position.
The yoke member 37 is preferably formed of two parts adjustably connected together by a bolt 41, as more clearly shown in Fig. 1, and the outer end of the yoke member 37 is mounted for rocking movement on the trans ferrer shaft 16, as indicated at l2, while its inner end is mounted for rocking movement on an extension of the transferrer shaft 16, as indicated at 13. The yoke member 3'? has an upstanding lug 44: to which is pivotally connected at 45 the yielding arm or link46, the outer end of which at 4:7 is preferably joined to an arm 48 secured to the transverse or rock shaft 49 which may be of usual construction. The transverse or rock shaft 49 is mounted upon the front of the loom in suitable bearings 50 and is connected as usual to a train of mechanism controlled by a feeler at-ive position to part the filling adjacent the shuttle eye.
Mounted for rocking movement. on the transferrer shaft 16 is the yoke member 51 whichi-s mounted-for rocking movement at its outer end upon the tran'sterrer shaft at 52 and at its inner end is mounted for rocking movement on the extension 43, as hereinbetore described. The yoke member 51, like the yoke member 37, may be formed of two parts adjustable relative to each other by means of a bolt 53.
Rising from the yoke member 51 at its inner portion is an arm 54L preferably con nected at 55 with a yieldable link 56 which may be of thegeneral type as that shown and described in the Stafford patent, hereinbefore mentioned. Theopposite end of the yielding link 56-is connected at 57 to the swingin arm 11 which carries the bobbin guide 10; fn the present instance, the, swinging arm 11 carries an adjustable pin 58, the end of which may be connected to the yieldable link 56 to thereby move the link in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 1, when the filling carrier or ber 51 carries a parter actuator 59 which may besuitably supported in a head 60. The parter actuator 59 hasits lower end portion turned rearwardly, in the present instance, as indicated at 61, and is adapted on downward movement of the parter actuator to engage a pin 62 extending laterally from the movable parting member 32, the construction being such that when the bobbin guide 10 is moved rearwardly, as indicated in Fig. 2, during the passage of the filling carrier or bobbin from the hopper towards the shuttle, the yoke member 51 will be rocked, to thereby depress the parter actuator 59 and cause the parter to part the thread adjacent the shuttle eye,-with the result that the thread is parted during thepassage of the incoming filling carrier or bobbin from the hopper towards the shuttle and priorto the time that such filling carrier or bobbin has been completely transferred. v
From the construction described as one good practical form of the present invention it will be apparent that upon call for replenishment of filling by rocking movement of the transverse or rock shaft 49, the slide with the parter connected thereto will be moved rearwardly to operative position, and when the filling carrler or bobbln next to be transferred is being moved from the hopper J. towards the shuttle, the bobbin guide will be moved to thereby rock the yoke member 51 and cause the parter actuator to part the filling adj acenttheshuttleeye before complete passage of the incoming filling carrier or bobbin into the shuttle. V
As hereinbefore described, the parter or parter and clamp comprises the construction indicated in Fi 8 and in order that the parter may be opened as it is being moved to rearward operative position, the bracket 28 has extending laterally therefrom the projecting portion 63 on which is pivotally mounted a trip (B l which has pivotal move ment frontwardly and-is stopped in its pivotal movement rearwardly by the lower portion 65 ofthe trip, with the result thatwhen the partner membershave been closed and the thread parted by the actuator 59, as hereinbefore described, and it moved frontwardly, the trip 64 will permit the parter to move frontwardly without opening the parter members so that the filling will be held or clamped by the parter until when filling replenishment is again called and the parter is adjacent the shuttle eye. What is claimed is 1. In a loom provided with mechanism to;
automatically replenish the filling in the shuttle, parting means-for parting the spent fillin adjacent the shuttle eye when'the shuttle is boxed torreplenishment, mechanism for moving the parting means intooper ativeposition on call for replenishment, a bobbin guide mounted for movement by the replenishing bobbin during its transfer, and mechanism for actuating the parter includ ing a rocking yoke, a parter actuator car ried by the yoke adjacent the delivery eye end of the boxed shuttle, and connections be tween the other end of the yoke and bobbin guide to operate the parter actuator to part the filling by movement of the bobbin guide during replenishment. 5, In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper, a transferrer for transferring a bobbin from the hopper to the shuttle, a parter for parting the spent filling at the eye end of the shuttle, a parter actuator including a rocker having a member extending in front of the hopper from its inner portion to a point opposite the eye end'of the shuttle, a bobbin guide mounted for movement by a bobbin as it is transferred, and a connection between the bobbin guide and the inner end of the rocker for causing the outer end of the rocker to actuate the parter by movement of the bobbin guide during transfer of a bobbin from the hopper to the shuttle.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper, a transferrer having portions for engaging the bobbin adjacent the head and tip portions for transferring a bobbin from the hopper to the shuttle, a parter for parting the filling at the eye end of the shuttle, a bobbin guidemounted for movement by a bobbin as it is transferred from the hopper, a' parter actuator mounted for rocking movement and having the portion connecting its inner and outer ends extended longitudinally of the hopper at one side of the head and tip portions of the transferrer in noninterfering relation therewith, and connections between the bobbin guide and actuator for causing the outer end of the latter to operate the parter by movement of the bobbin guide during transfer;

9. in a filling replenishing loom, the com bination of a hopper, a transferrer having a bobbin head and bobbin tip engaging portions, a shaft or stud on which the transferrer is mounted, a parter for parting the spent filling adjacent the shuttle eye a bobbin guide mounted for movement by a bobbin as it is transferred from the hopper, a parter ac tuator constituted as a yoke having an outer end pivotally mounted oppositethe outer portion of the shuttle boxand its inner end pivotally mounted opposite the innerportion of the shuttle and the connecting yoke member extending in off-set relation with parts mounted upon the transferrer shaft or stud, and connections between the bobbin guide and parter actuator to cause the parter actuator to operate the parter to part the filling near the shuttle eye as the bobbin leaves the hopper during transfer.
10. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper, a transferrer having a bobbin head and bobbin tip engaging members, a shaft or stud on which the transferrer .is mounted, a bobbin tip guide for directing the tip of the bobbin into the shuttle, a parter for parting the spent filling adjacent the shut tle eye, a bobbin guide mounted for movement by a bobbin as it is transferred from the hopper, a parter actuator piv'otally mounted at its inner and outer ends on the transferrer shaft or stud, a connector between said ends extending longitudinally in front of the transferrer stud or shaft in non-interfering relation with parts mounted on said stud or shaft, and connections between the bobbin guide and parter actuator to cause the parter actuator to operate the parter to part the fill ing near the shuttle eye as the bobbin leaves the hopper during transfer.

In a filling replenishing loom, the C0111; bination of a hopper, a transferrer shaft, a transferrer mounted on said shaft, a parter for parting the spent filling adjacent the shuttle eye, a bobbin guide mountedfor movement by a bobbin as it is transferred from the hop per, parter actuator including a yoke member mounted for rocking movement on the transferrer shaft at opposite sides of the transferrer, a connection between the ends of the yoke off-set from the transferrer shaft, and connections between the said member and the bobbin guide to cause the parter actuator to operate the parter to part the filling near the shuttle eye as the bobbin leaves the hopper during transfer.
12. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of a hopper, a transferrer for transferring a bobbin from the hopper to the shuttle, avparter for parting the spent filling along a side wall of the shuttle, mechanism including a yoke member for moving the parting means into operative position on call for re plenishment of filling, a bobbin guide mounted for movement by a bobbin as it is transferred to the shuttle, and mechanism for actuating the parter including a rocking yoke member adapted to be actuated by the move ment imparted to the bobbin guide by the incoming bobbin to actuate the parter to part the filling along the bobbin.
