UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.A
CHARLES BONDY, OE NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-PoucHEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,457, dated April 25, 1876; application tiled March 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES BONDY, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and l m proved Package for Cigars, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a perspective View ot' my in proved package, showing it filled with cigars. Fig. 2 is a cross-section ofthe same, and Fig. 3 a perspective View of an open cigar-box Iilled with my improved style of package.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.
The object ot' this invention is to provide a convenient and inexpensive receptacle for a small number of cigars, which receptacle will keep the several cigars properly separated, and will facilitate the carriage of the cigars in the pocket after they have been removed from the box.
My invention consists in-the construction of a partitioned exible pouch closed at one end and open at the other, and made shorter than the cigars which it is intended to receive, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
The letter A in the drawing represents my improved partitioned pouch. The same is made of paper or other iiexible fabric, which may, if desired, be lined or covered with tinfoil, to more perfectly confine the moisture in the cigars contained in said pouch. The interior of this pouch is, by transverse partitions a b, divided into a series of, say, three, four, or live compartments, d d, each compartment being adapted to receive one cigar. The pouch is made shorter than the cigars Which it ig intended to receive, so that the pointed cilds ot' the latter may project from the pouch, in the manner clearly shown in the drawing. I intend to till the cigar-box B with cigars that areV already packed in the improved pouches above described, as shown in Fig. 3, so that the owner ofthe cigar-box may take his dailysupply from the box in one of the pouches, and carry it conveniently therein until the pouch has been completely emptied, the pouch serving to protect the cigars in the pocket against abrasion, while in the box it serves to keep the cigars in shape, and also to retain lthe moisture in them, and thus to prevent their deterioration by long confinement in the box.
I claim as my invention- As an improved article of manufact-ure, the flexible pouch A, made with partitions a, b, to constitute compartments d d for cigars, said pouch being closed at one end and open at the other, and made shorter than the cigars which it is intended to contain, substantially as herein shown and described.
