Description

27, 1930. J.IJ ACOBS 1,760,501
MAN S QARTER Filed Sept. 25, 1929 Patented May 27, 1930 UNITED stares more? rarest OFFICE JOSEPH JACOBS, OF MILFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE A. J. DONOHUE GOR- PORATION, F MILFORD, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION MAN S GAB-TEE Application filed September 23, 1929.
This invention relates to improvement in mens garters and particularly to that class of garters in which the button and loop suspensiontab is adapted to be turned one way or the other so that the garter may be worn on either leg. In the more general construction of garters of this type the button and loop suspension means is mounted on the stud with which the loop or eye at the end of the n garter-strap engages, and this stud is mounted on a separate plate by which the studmember is secured to a tab attached to the other end of the garter. The object of this invention is to so connect the button and loopmember with the garter-strap that it may be turned in either direction and employing a single plate which mounts the stud and provides for the attachment of the plate to the garter. Another object of the invention is to provide a circular disc at one end of the garter to which the button and loop member is attached of greater diameter than the loop at the end ofthe strap which engages with the stud, so that whatever position the strap may i take, the link is protected against contact with the leg or garment of the wearer.
The invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and'particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. l is a front view of the garter constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the button and loop suspension plate detached.
Figs. 4 and 5 show perspective views of modified forms of button and loop suspension plates.
In carrying out my invention I employ a garter strap 10, perferably of elastic material, and attached to one end is a disc 11 generally formed from two pieces 12 and 13 of leather or other suitable material. The other v end of the strap passes through the usual coupling loop 14 and is connected to a slide 15 in the usual manner so that the length of the strap may be adjusted. Sewed, or otherwise secured, to the disc 11 is a plate 16 5 formed with a slot 17 providing a bar 18 by Serial No. 394,595.
which the plate may be secured to the disc 11. The main portion of the plate is cut away forming a segmental bar 19, and on the plate is mounted a headed post 20 with which the loop 1 1 engages in the usual manner. Suspended on the bar 19 is a button and loop member 21 of usual construction. The button 22 and the loop 23 being connected with a piece of tape 24 which is folded around the bar 19, being free to move from one side to the other and attached to move thereon according to the position of the garter strap.
It will be noted that the diameter of the disc 11 is greater than the length of the loopmember 1a and the plate 16 is so positioned on the disc 11 that the post 20 will stand at the center thereof and so that in whatever angle the garter strap may be turned the ends of the loop 14 cannot project beyond the periphery of disc 11 and hence cannot contact with the leg or garment of the wearer. A garter thus constructed may be worn on either leg; Instead of offsetting the bar 18 from the plate the sewing slot 25 may be formed in the plate itselfas shown in Fig. a of the drawings and instead of cutting away the mainportion of the plate a semi-circular slot 26 may be formed in the plate as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing, or instead of forming a semi-circular slot a U-shaped slot 27 may be formed in the plate as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. In either construction the post is adapted to be arranged at the center of the disc and the disc is of greater diameter than the length of the loop.
I claim:
1. A garter comprising a strap, a disc attached to one end thereof, a loop connected with the opposite end thereof, a plate secured to said disc, said plate provided with a stud, and formed with an opening providing a segmental bar and a buttonand loop-member connected with said bar.
2. A garter comprising a strap, a disc connected with one end of the strap, a loop connected with the other end of the strap; said disc being of greater diameter than the length of said loop, a plate provided with an attaching bar; and a portion of said plate out away forming a segmental bar, a post mounted on said plate, with which said p engages, and a button and loop member connected with said bar.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
JOSEPH JACOBS.
