' This invention relates to hatspand has special reference to a hat having acrown comprising pivotally united sections capable of variable adjustments to provide a closed crown or a ventilated crown, as desired.

An object of the invention is to provide a hat wherein the brim and the lower portion of the crown pivotally support acrown top in a relationship in which said top may be '10 adjusted upon and about the lower portion of the crownto provide a closed crown,*o r

A brim 1 may be provided at the front with a visor of suitable material and color to shadeand protect-the eyes of the. wearer. However, thisvisor may be omitted, if desired, and the brim may be of usual construction. 1 I

At the front the upper edge of the lower crown section is formed witha notch 5.

The upper crown section 6 comprises an approximately circular depending crown wall that telescopes around the upper portion of thelower crown section 8 and is 'pivotally connected'thereto at opposite sides by pivots 7 which may be inthe form of open eyelets 4.5- to permit circulation of air into and from I the hat. In case the same is needed, the lower edge of the upper crown section is enclosed by a strip 8 of binding material. The

From the foregoing it will be apparent that my improved hat is designed-and adapt- .ed for use in warm weather and functions to promote the circulation of air through thecrown of the hat. The size of the opening at the front of the hat may be varied, as'desired, the upper crown section being retained in whatever adjustment" it is placed by the clamping arrangement of the pivots 7 and the frictional contact of the telescoping surfaces of the crown sections. i

The construction and arrangement of the parts may be varied within equivalent limits ciple of the invention. The hat may be made of'woven or felted materials or of any appropriate hat material.

an upper crown section having a depending approximately circular wall telescoping around the upper end of the lower crown section, means pivotally connecting said two crown sections and permitting movement of the upper crown section to position to telescope about the entire upper end of thelower crown section to form a closed crown comprising said upper and lower sections and permitting movement or" said upper crown section to a tilted position to form an opening at the front of the crown of the hat between said two crown sections, as desired, and means forming passages for air through the sides of the upper crown section.
