UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
WILLIAM H. H. TRACY, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND FREDERICK SPAULDING, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,207, dated March 21, 1876 application filed February 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. H. TRACY, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Shirts, of which the following is a specification e Figure l is a front view of a shirt to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a detail" section of the same, taken through the line 00 00, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to furnish improved shirts, which shall be so constructed that the sideparts of the bosom will not be drawn out of position and shape by the working of the side parts of the front.
The invention consists in a shirt in which the bosom, at its sides, is made free from the shirt-body, but is connected with said body at its ends and along its middle part, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the front, B the yoke, and C is the neck-band, of the shirt, which parts are constructed and connected together in the usual Way. D is the bosom, the upper end of which is connected with the front, the yoke, and the neck-band in the usual way. The lower end of the bosom D is sewed to the shirt-front in the usual way. The middle part of the bosom D is sewed or stitched to the front A, but its side parts are left loose, as shown in Fig. 2. The loose side parts of the bosom D may be made of any desired number of parts, or may be lined with a coarser material, as may be desired. By this construction the working of the side parts of the front A will not draw the side parts of the bosom D out of shape or position, but will allow them to lie smooth, and will thus prevent the bosom from becoming soiled and rumpled as soon as it otherwise would.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A shirt having its bosom left free at its side edges, but attached to the body at the top and bottom edges and along the central line, as and for the purpose specified.
WILLIAM H. H. TRACY.
