This invention relates to improvement in portable garage lights. These consist of a handle formed from wood or other electricinsulating material adapted to support an electric-light bulb connected with wires extending through the handle and with a cage mounted on the handle and surrounding the light-bulb so as to protect the same. In the more general construction of lamps of this character, dilficulty is experienced in replacing the bulb when it is broken. The object of this invention is to provide simple and convenient means for connecting the cage to the handle, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.

In carrying out my invention I employ a handle 10 formed from wood .or other insulating material with an annular rib 11 at its outer end, this rib being formed with notches 12, herein represented as three in number. The lamp-guard consists of a ring 13 formed on its inner edge with integral downwardlyextending arms 14 terminating in outwardly-extended fingers 15. These finio'gers correspond in number and location to the location of the notches 12 which they are adapted to enter, so that the ring will come to a bearing upon the outer edge of the rib 11. V

However, in garage work these lamps are subjected to rough usage, and to prevent any possible disengagement of the cage from the handle, I form a per- I foration 25 in the band 18 and registeringperforations 26 in the collar 23 through which a cotter-pin 27 may be entered so as to lock the band and collar against rotation'and yet to permit-the cage to be detached from the handle when necessary to replace the bulb.
In this construction the ring 13 is so firmly fixed to the handle that it is not liable. tobe disengaged therefrom, the device as a whole being adapted to withstandthe rough usage often imposed upon lamps in garage work.
