MINERS SAFETY LAMP ATTACHING MEANS Filed 001;. 20, 1927 2 Sheets-Sheet. 2
gwuentoz J, fiz'ao am i/zz' Patented 4 19-'50 JOHN GIAVCOMINI, or tems, w s Y j mmnns sArErx- AMr-nrrAcnrNe MEANS Application filed October 20, 1927. serial no. 227,582.
i This invention relates to a meansfor attachment of a miners lamp to a support such as a cap, belt or article of clothing.
It is aimed to provide a novel and general- 1y improved construction particularly-wherein the lamp will be engaged by a double hook and a construction whereby the lamp. may be easily attached and detached, and the lamp and hook resiliently held against relative movement.
' Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment. In said drawings Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating the clasp attached to a supporting article;
Figure 2 is'a view similar to Figure 1 but showing a difierent form of supporting article Figure 3 is an elevation of the hook reversed to its positions of Figures 1 and 2;
Figure 4 is an elevation partly broken away, illustrating the lamp supported by the device;
' Figure 5 1s a sectional View taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4:; V
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 4, and.
Figure 7 is a plan view of the blank from which the supporting hook or clasp is made. Referring specifically to the drawings, 10 designates generally a supporting hook or clasp primarily constituting my invention. This article is preferably stamped as a blank from} sheet metal, in the form shown in Fig ure a Extending from opposite ends ofthe blank j or body 10 are'hooks ortongues 11 and 12,
}the former being shorter than the latter. The hook 12 intermediate its endsis bent to provide a hook as at 13.
;, The body is secured to a support conventionally suggested at 14 in Figure 1 and 14 in Figure 2 and which support may be a belt, cap or other article of clothing of the user. The body has attaching lugs bent therefrom at 15 and 16 and clinched against the article 14 or 142,1 1 an article like that at 141, slits or openings 17 are provided for passage of the lugs 16 therethrough while with the article 14 the lugs 16 are bent'against and around I its lower edge. 7 r
In Figures 4, 5 and 6, theminers lamp is conventionally shown at 18 as equipped with a socket member 19, which is a plate having an offset portion open at opposite ends and preferably tapering from the right hand end towards the left hand end as suggested in Figure 4.
In connecting the lamp to the clasp or hook, the hook 11 and hook 12 enter the socket member 19 from opposite sides and the auxiliary hook 13 engages one end of the socket member while the hook 11 engages the other end of the socket member and the free end 1 of the hook 12 bears against the adjacent portion of the lamp. In this way, a double hook connection is provided for the lamp so as to 7 more securely holdit in place and yet detachably and resiliently secure it against vibration or undue loosening. 7
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the I invention.
I claim as my invention 2- .1. An attachingdevice for a lampor the like comprising in combination with a socket member, a body, hooks extending from opposite ends of the body in opposite directions and both adapted to enter the socket member, one of the hooks being longer than the other, and the longer hook being provided with an auxiliary hook engageable with the socket member. 7 1 V 2. An article of the class described comprising in combination with a socket member,
a body, a hook extending from one end thereof over the body, a hookextending from the other end thereof over the body, both of said hooks being adaptedto enter the socket member, one of said hooks having an auxiliary hook formed thereon for engagement with the socket member.
8. An article of the class described com prising in combinationwith asocket member, a body, a hook extending from one end thereof over the body,-a hook extending from the other end thereof over the body, both of said hooks being adapted to enter the socket memher, one of said hooks having an auxiliary hook formed integrally thereon for the purpose specified, and attaching lugs on said 5 bOd L An article of the class described made from a one-piece blank comprising a body, attaching lugs at the top and bottom of said body extending in opposite directions,t0ngues extending from opposite ends of said body andover the body and each adapted to engage the same holder, one of said tongues being longer than the other and having an auxiliary holder-engaging hook formed thereon.
5. In combination with a socket 01:" a lamp or the like, an attaching body having hooks extending therefrom and entering said socket, one of said hooks being longer than the other and at its free end bearing against the lamp, said longer hook having an auxiliary IlQlOOk engagingone end of the socket mem- In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
