Description
SePt- 27, 1932' J. PlovARcHY BATTERY HOLDER FOR MINE LAMPS Filed Feb'. 21. 1930 @AYA 75 ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 27, 1932 NETE@ STATES JOHN PIOVARCHY, OF UNIONTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA BATTERY HOLDER FOR MINE LAMPS Application led February 21, 1930. Serial No. 430,323.
accident due to this cause.
An object of the present invention is the provision of means for so securing a battery to a belt, that the securing means may be readily and conveniently operated to remove or replace the battery when desired.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above character which is simple in construction, reliable and eiicient in use, and may be manufactured at a nominal l5 cost.
lWith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
ln the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation showing a portion of a miners belt with the invention applied.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same..
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a portion of a miners belt to which the invention is shown applied. The invention which is designed for the removable attachment of a Ininers electric battery, comprises a base plate 11, which is riveted or otherwise secured to the belt as shown at 12. This base plate is made of suitable metal, and formed integrally therewith is a tongue 13. rThis tongue is spaced from and overlaps the plate 11 and forms one member of the battery securing means.
Extending from and formed integrally with the other end of the plate 11 is an arm 14. This arm is provided with integral flanges 15 which extend from opposite edges and overlap the arm so as to provide guide flanges for a slide 16. This slide carries an offset tongue 17 and the offset portion of this tongue provides a shoulder 18 which is adapted to engage the ends of the flanges l5 to prevent withdrawal of the slide. The outer end of the slide carries a finger piece 19.
Secured to the under face of the plate 11 as indicated at 20 is a resilient strap 21 which is provided with an odset portion 22 delining a dog. This dog extends through an opening 23 provided in the arm 14 and is adapted to engage within openings 24 and 25 provided in the slide 16. When the dog 22 is engaged .within the opening 24, the device will bearranged to receive the strap attached to the battery of a miners electric lamp. The strap is inserted behind the tongue V13 and the slide moved inward so that the tongue 17 will lock the strap in place. As the slide is securely held in locked position by means of the dog 22, danger of accidental separation of the battery from the belt is positively prevented.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is An attachmentfor miners belts comprising a base plate adapted to be secured to the belt, a tongue extending from one edge of and overlapping the plate and spaced therefrom, an arm extending from the opposite edge of the plate, guide flanges extending along opposite side edges of the arm, a spring dog extending from the face of the arm and located between the flanges, a slide mounted between the guide flanges and having spaced openings therein to receive the dog and yieldingly hold the slide in position, a retaining tongue at the inner end of the arm and odset therefrom and extending over the base plate spaced from and opposed to the first mentioned tongue.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
JOHN PIOVARCHY.
