Claims.
Very often the gasoline tank cover of the automobile is lost or misplaced by the attendant while the tank is being filled. It is therefore the object of the invention to provide a clamp adapted to be attached near the nozzle of the hose for holding the cap While the tank is being filled.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind having a pair of jaws, one of them being movable and the other one being stationary for holding the cap between them and means to attach the device to a gasoline hose.
A still further object of the invention is to arrange the jaws to fit all size caps and spring means for resiliently gripping the cap. 20 Other objects will appear as the disclosure progresses. The drawing is intended to, merely indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. It is obvious that the actual needs of manufacture may necessitate certain mechanical changes. It is therefore not intended to limit the invention to the disclosure illustrated but rather to define such limits in the appended claims. For a more general understanding of the invention attention is called to the drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a rear view of one of the jaw gripping elements.
Figure 5 is a rear view of the other one of the jaw gripping elements.
Figure 6 is a view of the clamp.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, numeral I designates the upper jaw of the device, 2 the lower jaw and 3 the clamp for attaching the device around the gasoline hose 4. The jaws are V-shaped in section and curved along their pe- "ipheries to fit the curvature of the tank caps. Extending from each of the jaws are strap. members 5 and 6. The strap member 6 is permanently attached to the clamp 3 by the tongue members I and 8 fitting in the groove 9 of the breast portion In of the clamp. Numeral ll designates the bolt for keeping the clamp tightly engaged around the hose.
The strap member 5 is movable and is provided with an elongated slot I 2 to clear the bolt I3 screwed into the strap member 6. Numeral l4 designates a pair of tension springs attached to the jaws for normally keeping them together.

A slot I5 is cut in the jaw member I through which passes the strap member 5 and allows said member to move up or down and thus make it possible for the jaws to accommodate itself to any size cap. The jaw 2 can be moved down 5 against tension of the spring M the entire length of the slot l2 or until the upper part thereof I6 contacts with the bolt l3 thus making suflicient allowance for the largest size cap. The cap A will center itself between the jaws as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2 due to the sloping internal faces I1 and iii of the jaws.
It will thus be seen that we have provided a simple, useful and novel clamp for attaching gasoline tank caps to the gasoline hose so they can be handy and convenient to the attendant when needed.
7 Having described our invention, we claim:
1. In a device of the class described, two jaw members, one of said jaw members being movable and the other one of said jaw members being stationary, strap members extending from each of said jaw members, the strap member of the movable member passing through a slot in the stationary jaw member, a pair of tension springs for drawing together said jaw members, a hose clamp, and means for attaching said device to said hose clamp.
2. In a device of the class described, two jaw members V-shaped in section, one of said jaw members being movable and the other one of said jaw members being stationary, strap members extending from each of said jaw members, the strap member of one of the jaw members passing through a slot in the other one of said jaw members, means for resiliently drawing said jaws together, and means for attaching said device to a hose.
3. In a device of the class described, two jaw members, said jaw members being V-shaped in section, one of said jaw members being movable and the other one of said jaw members being stationary, strap members extending from each of said jaw members, the strap member of the movable member passing through a slot in the stationary jaw member, a pair of tension springs for drawing together said jaw members, a hose clamp, and means for attaching said device to said hose clamp.
4. In a device of the class described, two jaw members V-shaped in section, one of said jaw members being movable and the other one 01' said jaw members being stationary, strap members extending from each of said jaw members, the strap member of one of the jaw members 55 passing through a slot in the other one of said jaw members, means for resiliently drawing said jaws together, a pair of tongues formed in said stationary strap member, a hose clamp, said tongues engaging said hose clamp.
5. In a device of the class described, two jaw members, said jaw members being V-shaped in section, one of said jaw members being movable and the other one of said members being stationary, strap members extending from each of said jaw members, the strap member of the movable member passing through a slot in the stationary jaw member, a pair of tension springs for drawing together said jaw members, a hose clamp, and means for attaching said device to said hose clamp, a pair of tongues formed in said stationary strap member, a hose clamp for embracing a gasoline hose, said tongues engaging said hose clamp.
