Description

1954 M. S. CORNELL 2,685,992
HOLDER FOR RECEPTACLES Filed March 17, 1952 WWA/ INVENTOR.
Patented Aug. 10, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDER FOR RECEPTACLES Marvin S. Cornell, Port Washington, Wis. Application March 17, 1952, Serial No. 276,999
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to improvements in holders for receptacles and more particularly to a novel holder for receptacles for the type including a bail.
The device is especially well adapted to hold a paint can which is unprovided with a bail, and after the receptacle has been emptied of paint, the holder may easily be transferred to another paint can for use thereon. The invention has for its object to provide a sturdy yet relatively inexpensive holder for paint cans or similar receptacles, the said holder being provided with a bail for carrying or hanging the holder and receptacle for convenient use of the contents thereof.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective from above of a holder for receptacles embodying the invention, with the receptacle indicated as held therein with broken lines.
Fig. 2 is a side view partly in elevation and partly in section of the same.
Fig. 3 is a view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the device generally, comprising a rectangular frame member H and a circular band portion I 2. The circular band portion I2 is formed of two semi-circular segments l3 and it. Each semi-circular segment I3 and I4 has at one end thereof an integral radially extended ear [5. provided with a substantially central aperture at l6 thereof. The opposite end of each semi-circular segments l3 and M is provided with an integral radially exte riorly projecting clip I! formed of the two portions l8 and I9 spaced to receive the ear I and centrally apertured as at ISA in registry with the aperture [6. The ear l5 of one of the segments l3 and I4 is held snugly within the clip ll of the other segment The rectangular frame member I I has a horizontal segment 20 flanked by the two vertical portions 2| and 22. The vertical portions 2| and 22 are surmounted by the externally reversed portions 23 and 24 which are each comprised of a pair of tabs 25 and 26 spaced by a slot as at 27. The tabs 25 and 26 engage about the circular band portion l2 and are secured by rivet means 28 therethrough. A bail 30 has an eye 3| at each end thereof which is engaged in the registered apertures ['6 and I9A of the nested car 15 and clip ll.
In Fig. 1 a receptacle such as a one gallon paint can is shown in broken lines as held within the holder I0.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A receptacle holding frame comprising a pair of semicircular band elements for freely embracing a receptacle, a vertically disposed frame element for supporting said receptacle, split end portions on said frame element folded over said band element with return bends, means securing said end portions to said band elements, a vertical centrally apertured ear integral with one end of each band element extending radially therefrom, an apertured radially disposed clip on the other end of each band to receive the ear of the opposite band to interlock said bands, and a bail engaged in said interlocking ears and clips for suspending said frame.
