PATENT oF IcE.
LAWRENCE '1'. YENEBALL, or" .Tnr-rEa'soN PENNSYLVANIA.
MINERS-BATTERY HOLDER.
Application filedlarch 30, 1928. Serial No. 266,O32.
My invention relates to devices for securing a miners electric battery to the belt of the miner and it primarily has for its object to provide such a means as will be simple in construction, a device that can be made cheaply and applied to any belt and a device by the use of which the lamp can'be quickly attached to the belt and as quickly removed when desired.
1 Further the invention seeks to providea- \Vith other objects in view which will bein part obvious and in part referred to here- '15 inafter, the invention resides in those novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims reference being had .to the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective viewillustrating the invention, a battery being indicated in dotted lines. I
Figure 2 is an elevationand part longitudinal section of the invention, and
Figure 3 is a detail cross section on the line 33 on Figure 2. r
In the drawing inwhich like numbers of reference designate like parts in all the ligures, 1 represents the belt to'which the bat-- tery 2 is to be attached.-
The invention comprises a base plate 3 which is riveted at 4 to the belt 1. To this base plate is secured, at 7, a hook member coni sisting of the base part 5 and the ofiset part 6, the latter lying in a plane parallel .to that of the base plate 3 but spaced therefrom. ,To the base plate 3 is also fastened a housing 8 stamped from thin metal with tangs 9 to ass through slots 10in the base plate 3 and be V clinched over.
The housing 8 has a slot 11 in one end and an opening in the other end to permit passage ofthe latch member. This member consists of the head portion 12, the shank 13 and the handle 14, the latter beingwvider than the slot 11 to serve as a stop. Springs 16 .within the housing press the head 12 toward the hook 6, a washer 15 being used if desired to give a wider spring abutment.
In using my invent on the loop 17 of the battery 2 is slipped over the hook 6, the head v12 having first been'pulled back, after which the head 12 is permitted to slip within the loop 17 thereby securely holding the lamp to the belt.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought the-construction and uses of my invention will be readily understood by-oo those skilled in the art.
What I claim is:
1. As a new article, an attachment for miners belts comprising a base plate, means securing. said plate to a belt, a hook fixed to ,65 said plate and having'an offset portion lying approximately parallel to said plate, a housing secured to said plate, a spring pressed latch member mounted in said housing and having a head aligning with said oflset portion for the purposes described.
'2. The article of claim 1, wherein the housing is formed of sheet metal and has slots in its 'ends for the'reception of said latch member, said latch member projecting through said slots and having a handle constituting a stop, and a head connected with the handle by a' shank, and springs in the housing for pressing the head forwardly.
LAWRENCE T; YENERALL.
