Description

w. P. WOOD FLASH'LIGHT A'M'AGHMENT Filed Jan. 29. 1927 ITIELE Patented Nov. 15, 1927.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM 1?. WOOD, OF IPAWTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND.
FLASH-LIGHT ATTACHMENT.
Application filed January 29, 1927. Serial No. 164,477.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in flashlight attach ments, and the primary object thereof is to provide an attachment having a red or other lens, which can be easily and quickly applied to and removed from the flashlight, so as to convert the latter into a danger signal that is particularly for use of motorists or others who are caused to stop along the side of a road at night due to trouble with an automobile or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this kind which is formed to fit varying sizes of flashlights, and to also provide an attachment wherein the lens is removably held by the attachment.
The invention has further and other ob jects which will be later set forth and mani fested in the following description.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a conventional form of flashlight having the present invention applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the attachment; and
Fig. 3 is a front elevation thereof.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, apreferably rubber sleeve-like member or body 1 is employed so as to enable same tov be applied to the front end of a flashlight casing. such as is illustrated at 2 in the drawings by stretching of the body. The inner end of the body has its edge tapered at 3 so as 'to facilitate positioning thereof on the flashlight.
In order to enable the attachment to be applied to flashlights of varying sizes, the interior thereof is stepped as indicated'at 4, 5 and 6, the stepped arrangement affording grips which engage the flashlight casing.
The lens 7 is of somewhat dome-shape and has an integral flange 8 extending outwardly from its base, which flange is received in a groove 9 provided therefor on the interior of the front end of the member 1, and due to the resilient nature of the latter the member can be stretched over the flange 8 so as to position the latter in the groove 9.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the attachment can be easily and quickly applied to a flashlight and easily removed as desired. While the member 1 is shown as of circular form, still it will be obvious that other forms may be employed and that various colors or forms of the lens 7 may be employed, and that various colors or forms of the lens 7 may also be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. In a flashlight attachment, a resilient sleevelike member formed to removably fit over the front end of a flashlight casing, said member having a stepped interior to provide grips engageable with the casing and having an mternal'groove, and a lens carried by the front end of the member, and being removably engaged in the groove. 1
2. In a flashlight attachment, a resilient sleeve-like member formed to removably fit over the front end of a flashlight casing, said member having a stepped interior to rovide rips engageable with the casing, a ens, and means to secure the lens to the casing.
3, In a flashlight attachment, a sleevelike member having a stepped interlor to receive flashlight casings of varying sizes, and a lens carried by the member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
WILLIAM P. WOOD.
