My invention relates to an improvement in electric lighting-fixtures, the object being to provide convenient and reliable means for mounting standard pull-chain electric-light sockets in canopies, whether designed for ceiling or side-walls.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in an electric lighting-fixture characterized by a canopy having a fixed concentric mounting-sleeve provided with a bayonet-slot forthe reception of the chainguide of a standard pull-chain electric-light socket, and a collar applied to the said sleeve over the said slot.
My invention further consists in an electric lighting-fixture characterized as above and having certain details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

to carrying out my invention, as herein shown, in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, ll form a bayonet-slot in tl'ieside-wall of a fixed mounting-sleeve 11 arranged concentrically within the lower portion or a canopy 12 of any approved form and construction, the lower end of the said sleeve being shaped, as shown, to form an inwardly-projecting seating-shoulder 13, upon which the shoulder 14: of a standard pull-chain electric-light socket-casing 15 is brought to a bearing. Directly below the seating-shoulder 13, the said sleeve is shaped to form an outwardlyprojecting bead 16 which rests upon the inwardly-turned lip 17 of the canopy, the extreme lower edge 18 of which turned outwardly to grip the inwardly-turned upper edge 19 oi a shade-holder 20, which may also be of any approved form and construction. However, I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to the specific manner described of rigidly installing the mounting-sleeve 11 within a canopy oi": an electric lighting-fixture.
The bayonet-slot 1'0 aforesaid receives the bellshaped chain-guide 22 forming a feature of the standard pull-chain electriclight socket-casing 15 and receiving and guiding the bead pull-chain, 23 thereof. The upper wall 24: of the horizontal reach of the bayonet-slot 1O co-acts with the upper edge. of the bell-shaped chain-guide 22 to prevent the upward displacement of the socket-casing 15 in the sleeve 11, while the end-wall 25 of the horizontal reach of the said bayonet-slot prevents ,the counterclockwise rotary movement of the casing in the sleeve. For preventing the clockwise rotary movement of the casing in the sleeve, I employ a collar 26 preferably adapted to fit snugly over the upper end of the sleeve 11, and formed in its lower edge with a lockingnotch 27 which fits over the upper portion of the said chain-guide 22, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 one wall of the said notch 27 engaging with one side of the chain-guide 22 to prevent the socket-casing from turning in one direction within the mounting-sleeve 11. The said collar is formed at its upper end with an inwardly-turned annular stopfiange 28 which bears directly upon the up per edge of the shoulder 29 of the cap 30 or the socket-casing 15. To prevent the clockwise rotation of ,the collar 26 upon the sleeve 11, the collar is indented, as at 31, to form an abutment-edge 82 which engages with the outer side-wall 83 of the vertical reach of the bayon'etslot 10.
Under my invention, it becomes very convenient to install a standard pull-chain socket-casing in a canopy, in which it is firmly held against endwise or rotary displacement.
While I have illustrated and described my invention as applied to a ceiling canopy, it is equally applicable to a canopy designed for use in other locations, as on a side-wall.
I claim:
An electric lighting fixture, comprising a ing from the upper edge of the said sleeve for the reception of the pull-chain guide of a standard electric-light socket-casing, the said guide co-acting with the inner wall of the horizontal reach of the said slot to prevent the turning of the casing in the sleeve in one direction, a collar applied to the upper end of the said sleeve, a locking-notch formed in the lower edge of the said collar to fit over the said guide to prevent the socket-casing from turning in the opposite direction with respect to the said sleeve, and an abutment struck inward from the collar to engage the outer Wall of the vertical reach of the said slot to prevent the collar from turning on the sleeve away from the horizontal reach of the said bayonet-slot.
