UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RAYMOND v. only, or ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO THE EDWIN r. eu'rn COMPANY, or sun LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION or mrssounr.
HOUSING FOR LIGHTING-FIXTURE SUPPCRTS.
Application filed July 15, 1925. SeriaINo. 43,707.
My invention relates to the art of illumination, and has for its purpose to provide a housing for wall brackets, principally, whlch will also provide anchoring means for an ad- .ditional porcelain receptacle which-will serve as an additional outlet, which outlet may be 'used for any desired purpose, such as the attachment of an electric iron, and the like.
A further object is .to provide a housing for lighting fixture supports, which will coordinate with the canopy to be used, so as to effectually conceal all'of the securing parts.
,My invention consists of certain details of construction in which,
, Fig. 1 is an elevation partly in vertical section to show the interior construction;
Fig. 2 is a disassembled view of the construction of my device. I
Referring to the accompanying drawings, reference numeral 10 is used to indicate a junction box of the usual type, provided with screw-threaded stud 11, to which is secured a metal strap 12, which is U shaped in conformation, the outer end being provided with a screw-threaded orifice to receive asecuring screw 13. The numeral 14 indicates a metal.
bridge withofiset ends 15 and 16 respectively, in each of which is a screw-threaded orifice to receive the elongated- headed screws 17 and 18, respectively. The numeral 19 indicates an extension ring, designed to beseated over the junction box, the'metal'bridge overlapping the said ring so that-when the bridge is firmly seated in position, it will securely fasten the ringto the junction box. The exstamped thereon, which, by construction, is
of the proper size as to permit the canopy to fit over it so that the canopy 22 will fit flush against the body portion of the extension ring. This is for the purpose of efiectually concealing the securing means for the extension ring, canopy, and the like, and to provide a fixture in which all of the usual secur- 1ng means are concealed.
The canopy 22 is provided with two key-- hole slots 23 and 24 designed to receive the elongated screws 17 and- 18, by means of which the canopy is seated'upon the extension 7 ring 19 and secured thereto.
A socket 25 is securedin the usual manner I to the junction box 10 and concealed by the canopy 22, and the glass shade 26 is provided with a flaring lip 27 which overlies the heads of the elongated screws when the shade is fitted against the canopy. A securingring 28 engages the inside of the shade 26 and screws on to the lamp socket, thus providing means for efit'ectually securing the shade to the canopy.
The operation'of the elements of my device is obvious. Having'thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the UnitedStates is I 1. A housing for an outlet box having a circular portion, there being an opening therein, a shoulder surrounding said opening, a downwardly extending portion formed integral therewith, said extension being adapted to receive an electric plug recepta cle, a canopy which fits said shoulder, a strap secured to the junction box, a pair of elon:
gated screws mounted therein, there being ceive said screw heads.
2. A housing for an outlet box having a circular portion, there being an ,7 opening keyhole slots in said canopy adapted to rea downwardly extending portion formed intherein, a shoulder'surroundingsaid opening,
tegral therewith, said extension being adapted to receive an electric plug receptacle, a canopy which fits said shoulder, a strap secured tothe junction box, a pair ofelongatedscrews mounted therein. there being keyhole slots in said canopy adapted to receivesaid screw heads, a shade and means to attach said shade to said canopy and conceal said slot and screw heads.
