This invention relates generally to receptacles for refuse such as garbage, ashes and the like and consists o construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will bemore fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. i
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a receptacle embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view through the same when installed in a wall of a building or the like. Y
Figure 5 is a front elevation of a slightly modified construction.
Figure 6 is a vertical c sectional view through the construction shown in Figure 5.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 is the base, 2 and 3 respectively are the front and and (irespectively are the end walls of a receptacle` embodying my invention.` Locatedv between the end walls .5 and 6 and preferably parallel `thereto is a vertical partition -7 that is pref'- eralbly connected into the base 1 and top wall 4 and thereby divides the receptacle intothe laterally spaced chambers or compartmentsa and respectively. As shown, the front wall 2` preferably inclines rearwardly from the base to the top wall 4 and is provided with l three spaced openings 8, 9 and 10 respectively for the which constitute an outlet opening for the` compartment A and outlet and inlet openings compartment B. The top wall 4 is preferably parallel to the base land has a single opening 11 that constitutes theinlet opening for the compartmentA. Any suitable means such as the covers 12, 13, 14 and 15 respectively may be used to close the openings f8, 9, 10 and l1.` As shown these covers are e preferably formed of metal and are connected `much as the wall 2 by suitable hinges 16, tively to the walls of the receptacle. Preferably the front and top walls 2 and 4 respectively of the receptacle have openings formed therein to receive the hinge parts so that the assembly operation will be simplified. Inas inclines upwardly and f certain novel features of v 17, 18 and 19 respecnn'ifnorr, MICHIGAN non REFUSE OFFICE 1927. serian No. eoaecsj thereto at the upper edges of the openings, it
will be readilyapparent that the `gravity will `cause the metal covers to ajoe normally closed.
Hence, the need of separate fasteners has been .obviatedL Preferably wedge-shaped ledges 20, 2l and 22 respectively are provided on the front wall 2 ings 8, 9 and the upper edges of the openrespectively to c prevent water from draining through the openings into the will limit the ers, hence they leaning back openings and open position. refuse from the receptacle. Due to their 'location these ledges opening movement of the covwill prevent the covers from against the wall 2 above the thus being accidentally left in .To facilitate the removal of receptacle, the base' 1 is prefthe forward edge thereof ortion 23 that extends up- 21 and 22 Vrespectively are preferably formed vof reinforced co struction, these grally ccnnected together in one operation by ncrete. parts In the process of conare formed and lnteplacinga sufficient supplyof concrete and suitable reinforcing vmeans such as metal scraps "or rods in a sectional mold (not shown). of the building ing 11 in and accessible the receptacle may be termed struction when the mold seced. receptacle is preferably ansuitable opening in a wall of a building. As shown, the upper forward edge of the front wall 2 of the 4erably arranged flush with the `outer face c receptacle is prefwall 25 so that the inlet openthe top of the receptacle is located inside of the building. To
prevent any intruder entering the building through the receptacle, the
cover 15 may be provided with a suitable lock, not shown).
In Figures 5 modification in for the compart wall 31 of the top wall 32. hinges 33 for t the wall Blah and 6 I have shown a slight which the inlet opening 30 edges of the openings 8 As shown, the base 1, partition 7 and ledges 20, i
ment A is located in the front receptacle instead of in the With this construction thel he cover 34 are connected to ove the opening 30 and are:
protected b y a Wedge-shaped ledge 35 which corresponds and functions similar to the ledges 20, -l and 22 respectively.
Thus from the foregoing description, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a strong and durable construction that can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost. As the receptacle is cast into one piece it will also be apparent that the installation thereof has been greatly simplified. In fact they may be built and shipped as units ready for immediate installation. Moreover leakage due to faulty joints has been obviated entirely.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature andadvantage of my invention will bereadily apparent,
I desire to have it understood that I do notv liniit myself to `avdaat is herein shown and described and that such changes inay be resorted to when desired as fall Within the scope of what is claimed.
vWhat I'claiin as iny invention is:
l. A receptacle for refuse having an upwardly inclined Wall provided withv an opening for refuse, a closure for the opening liingedly connected to the Wall above the opening, a ledge overhanging said opening so as to protect the connection between the closure and Wall andr prevent Water draining through the opening into the receptacle, said ledge being constructed and arranged to limit the opening movementof the closure so as to prevent the latter from leaning back against the inclined Wall above the opening and thereby accidentally be lett in open position.
2. A receptacle for refuse having anvupvWardly inclined Wall provided with an opening for reuse, a closure for said opening hingedvly connected to said wall above the opening, and ineans upon said inclined Wall protecting the connection between the closure and Wall, preventing Water draining l through the opening into the receptacle, and limiting the opening nioveinent of the closure to prevent the closure whenin open position from leaning back against said Wall and accidentally remaining in open position.
In testimony whereof". I affix iny signature.
ROY HOUGHTEN.
