Description

p 13, 1932- E. WATTMANN REFUSE RECEPTACLE Filed Sept. 29, 1930 Ovvewn A @YZw y Z VQ P/CS Patented Sept. 13, 1932 UNITED STATES IPATENTTOFFICE EMIL WATTMANN, OF CSEPEI, HUNGARY, ASSIGNOR TO MANFRED WEISS STA HL-UND METALLWERKE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, OF BUDAPEST, HUNGARY REFUSE nnonrrncnn Application filed September 29, 1930, Serial No. 485,213, and in Germany October 18, 1929. I
The present invention relates to a receptacle suitable for collecting refuse, more particularly in streets of towns, with a trouglr shaped body, open at one side, which is secured upright to a house wall, to the standard of a street lamp or the like. In this position the box presents an inclined or curved top, and a floor inclined towards the open side. The lower part of the open front sideis covered with a plate which ispreferably formed as a trap-door rotatable about its upper edge. The uncovered upper part of the front forms the insertion opening.
The invention has for its object to provide for the convenient insertion, and emptying, since for this last purpose it is only necessary to raise the trap-door, when the contents fall out. On account of the long narrow shape,
the breadth of the box only slightly exceeds the width of standards of the usual kind, so that it can be installed without hindering traffic.
If the box is placed in an upright position, as in the accompanying drawing, thisboxshape gives the following advantages On account of the forwardly inclined bottom part and the open front, the box empties itself automatically when the door is open-' ed and the entire area of the inner surface thereof fully exposed and accessible. Obj ects placed on the top of the box fall down,
and thereby inducing users to throw refuse into the opening. This box-form also prevents the entry of rain or snow into the interior of the box.
holes I), the back wall is arched, and the front d is open with its edge disposed in a vertical plane. An axle 6 about half way up the open front pivotally supports a door I. The concave surface of the arched back wall a faces the open front of the box and forms, with the side walls a, the refuse receiving chamber.
The door f is preferably made so that it can be locked with a bolt 9 by means of a key so that it cannot be opened by unauthorized persons and the hinge thereof is so arranged that the door gravitates to closed position. The opening only concerns the attendant who has to empty it.
The door is preferably fitted with a catch, so that it looks automatically. The box is secured to a standard i by means of pipe clips h arranged behind the convex sur ace of. the back wall 0.
What I claim is 1. A refuse receptacle comprising a body having an open front and including side walls and an arched back wall constituting the containing portion for the contents, the concavity of said back wall facing said front, and a hinged door covering substantially the lower half of the open front, the hinge of concavity of said back wall facing said front,
a hinged door covering substantially the lower half of the open front, the hinge of said door being so disposed as to cause the door to gravitate to closed position, and attaching means for the body carried by the convex surface of the arched back wall.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
EMIL WATTMANN.
