This invention relates to garments and in particular to boys knickerbockers.

An object of the present invention is to provide an improved form of leg-band attached to the lower end of the trousers portion.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved strap, preferably of leather or other wear-resisting material, directly on one end of a fabric leg-band and attached thereto so that the fabric portion of the band will not be engaged by and worn out by attachment to the buckle.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved method of securing a strap to the end of a leg-band of knickerbocker trousers by first stitching the strap to one end of the trousers fabric and to the lining forming the band while the fabric and lining are reversed, then folding the fabric and its lining right side out and again stitching the folded materials together preferably by a plurality of spaced seams.

With these and other objects in view my invention includes the features of construction and operation set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

In the accompanying drawing annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, I have shown my invention embodied in boys knickerbockers, but it will be understood that the invention can be otherwise embodied, and that the drawing is not to be construed as defining or limiting the scope of the invention, the claim appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.

In the above mentioned drawing, I have shown but one embodiment of the invention which is now deemed preferable, but it is to be understood that changes and modifications maybe made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of; the invention.

A shortplacket 12 or opening is formed in the trousers aligned with the ends of the fabric portions of the band. The leg-band 11 is of sufiicient length that its ends lie adjacent to each other but do not overlap when'in position upon the wearer. A strap 13 attached to one end of the leg-band 11 is provided in order to engage a buckle 14 attached adjacent the opposite end of the leg-band 11.

The leg-band 11 in those portions attached to and encircling the leg, as shown in Fig. 3, is made up of fabric preferably similar to the material of which the trousers 10 are made. In addition, a lining 15 is provided stitched to the outline of the leg-band. In attaching the leather strap 13 to this leg-band 11, the seam 16 (shown in Fig. 3) is first stitched while the fabric of the band 11 and lining 16 are turned inside out. fore concealed When the garment is finished. The fabric of the band 11 and lining 15 are then reversed so that they Will be right side out, and the two additional seams 17 and 18 are then stitched. In this manner, the strap 13 is attached to the leg-band 11 by three separate and independent seams 16--17 and 18 spaced from each other so that this strap 13 is very securely retained in position. One of these seams, namely 16, being stitched before the fabric and lining are turned right side out, is concealed. Of the other two seams 17 and 18, one may be continued about the complete outline of the band. The buckle 14 on the opposite end of the leg-band 11 may be attached in any conventional or usual manner.

By the provision of this strap 13 formed as an extension or tab upon the leg-band 11, all of the Wear occasioned by the material coming in contact With the metal portions of the buckle 14 is taken by the strap 13 and eliminated from the fabric forming the band 11. This strap 13, as stated above, is preferably made of leather or other material of much greater strength, durability and Wearresisting qualities than the fabric of Which the lining 15 ortrousers 10 is made.

I claim:

A garment comprising in combination, a leg portion, a fabric leg-band therefor stitched directly to said leg portion and extending substantially about said leg portion, a lining for said'leg-band stitched thereto at its periphery, a leather strap extending from one end of said leg-band, attaching means comprising a concealed seam for attaching said strap to said band and lining between said band and lining, and a seam on the outside of said band extending complete- 1y through said band, lining and strap, and a buckle attached adjacent'the opposite end of said leg-band and adapted to engage the strap.
