Description

H. BACHLEDA HAIR MARCELLER Dec. 10, 1929.
Filed Oct. 15, 1927 Patented Dec. 10, 1929 U E T ii.
HAIR MARCELLER Application filed October 15, 1927. Serial No. 226,383.
My invention relates to toilet accessories and has particular reference to devices for curling, marcelling, or waving the hair, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this characterwhichis relatively light in weight, easily applied and removed and which will produce a more permanent waving or curling of the hair than is accomplished by the use of the devices heretofore proposed in the art.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hair curler of this character which is exceedingly simple and practical in construction, yet which will be strong, durable and ef'icientin use, which will not injure the hair,
and which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the special construction, combination and arrangement of the various elements forming the invention as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part 5 hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in position for receiving a strand of hair,
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the main hair retaining bar in locked position,
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the mainand supplemental hair retaining bars in locked position, and
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially along a line 4-t of-Figure 3.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the invention comprises a substantially elongated rigid plate member 5, of a slightly 4o arcuate formation between theends thereof, from each end of which extends a pair of spaced parallel rods 6, each of said rods being in longitudinal alinement with the edges of the plate member 5 and with the outer ends of the rods at each end of the plate connected by a transverse rod 7 A main hair retaining bar 8 is disposed beneath the plate member 5 in longitudinal alinement therewith, with one end of said bar curved about the transverse rod 7 at one end '5 with the bar 8 interposed between the plate 7 of the bar 8. v
videdwith a catch 12 for engaging the other of the plate member 5 whereby to provide a I 4 ing the bar 8 is alsopivotally connected one I end of a link 10, the opposite end of said link forming a pivotal connection with a pair of relatively thin springstee'l rods 11 adapted to'extend longitudinally of the'plate member and said rod. v
As clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing the link 10 is of a relatively short length and adapted to space the rods 11 from the bar 8 so that upon arranging" the strands of hair as shown at 12 in a clamping position between the plate member 5 and bar 8 as shown in Figure 2, the rods 11' will engage the hair at a point remote from the portion so clamped.
The rods 11 may also be brought together to clamp the hair extending from each side One of the rods. 11- is pro of said rods whereby to secure the sameto-e; gether. The transverse rods 7 at the end of the plate'member opposite from the link 10 carry a swinging cap 13 within which .the free ends of the rods. 11 may be extended upon the movement ofthe link 10 and rods? therein as clearly illustrated in Figure 4: of
7 a person to produce a series of curls in the form of marcelling through the hair.
It is obvious that my invention is susceptible to various changes and modifications in construction Without departing from the I spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims, and I accordingly claim all such forms ofthe device. to which I "am entitled. I I 10 Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: r 1. A hair curler of the class described com-i prising a plate member, a hair retaining bar 7 pivotally attached at oneendto said plate 5 member, a catch carriedby said plate memberengageable with the: free end of the bar whereby to secure: said bar against the plate member whereby to retainthe strands of hair therebetween, a link pivotally carried at the 30 pivotediendi of said bar anda pair of rods attached at one endto said link whereby to space the adjacent ends of the'rod's and the bar from each other a substantial: distance, said. rods coacting witheaclrother for clamping a separate portioirof the hair and independent means carried'by' said plate'member for engaging. andretaining said rods in superposed relation at one side of the plate; 7 2.v A hair curler. comprising a platemernher having spacedparallel. rods extending outwardly from each end thereof and connected at their outer: endssby a transverse rod, ahair retaining bar pivotally attached at one end t0 one of said transverse rods, a catch at the oppositeend of the plate member for'engaging the. free end of the bar and retaining the same against one side of the plate, a link also. pivotally attachedto said transverse rod at the pivoted end of the bar, Y '40 a pair of relatively thin spring steelrods pivot-ally connected at one end to said link and extending longitudinally with respect. to the bar, means for securing the spring steel rods in closely spaced relation for clamping'th'e hair therebetween and a rod supporting member carried by the otherof said transverse rods adapted' to retain the spring steel rods and; said link in longitudinally extended I relation against the side of the bar opposite from the plate.
