IMPROVEMENT IN SHAWL-BAGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0- l73,7 l 2, dated February 22, 1876; application filed June 12,1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known thatI, Or'ro BENDER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shawl-Bag, of

' which the following is a specification:

Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved shawl-bag, with apart broken away to show construction and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on theline x 00.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The object of my invention is to produce an improved shawl-bag of light and elegant, yet strong, construction, in which shawls and other articles may be readily packed without squeezing and crumpling, and the interior space tilled without difficulty.

Theinvention consists of a bag, which is formed of a lateral gussetconnecting part stiffened in longitudinal direction by a hoop band frame, its closing flap overlapping the mouth or opening of the bag at the side of the frame, and being retained by fastening-straps.

1n the drawing, A represents the inclosing 7 part of my improved shawl bag, made of round, oval, square,or other suitable shape, and pro vided with stiff pasteboard .or folding gussets B of corresponding shape. A stiflening-frame,

O, of hoop-steel band extends in longitudinal direction from gusset to gusset, and is riveted to the inclosing-bag part and the gussets, giving therebythe required strength to the bag, While preserving lightness and cheapness. The handle D and the fastening-straps E are attached to one of the longitudinal sides of frame 0, and an opening or mouth of nearly the entire width of the bag provided at one side of frame 0, the flap A of the bag overlapping and closing the same.

The lateral inclosing part of the bag may be made of one continuous piece, which is rigidly attached to the gussets and the mouth of the .same, provided with an additional flap, A,

The bag may also be completely filled, and

the shawl strapped under theflap, if desired, the whole forming a very neat and handy article that combines lightness and cheapness with an atttraetive form and ready application to use. p
