IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED TRAVELING BAGS AND CHAIRS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 168.402, dated October 5, 1875; application filed August 28, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CELINE LAUMONIER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Traveling Bag and Chair, of which the following is a specification:

Figure 1 represents a front view; Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of my combined traveling bag and chair, shown folded up to be carried as bag or satchel; and Fig. 3 is a side view of the same, shown in position for use as a chair.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The invention will first be described in con nection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing,- A represents a folding chair with hinged back B, connected, by folding braces B, to the seat of the chair. The folding legs 0 swing readily into open position, and are locked in any suitable manner to the seat to impart a certain degree of rigidity to the chair when in open position. The under side of the seat part is provided with a folding bag, D, for storing conveniently books, papers, and other articles. A similar bag, D, is arranged at the outside of the chair-back B for putting additional articles therein, the inclosing bag or satchel E being attached to the back, one half extending along the same, the other being suspended below the same, as shown in Fig. 3.

When the chair is folded up the satchel or bag is placed around the folded chair and closed by overlapping flaps having, besides a suitable locking mechanism, a handle which serves to carry conveniently the whole device.

The change from bagto chair, and vice versa, is readily accomplished, so that the device forms a useful and neat article for traveling and other purposes.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The back and seat of a folding chair, being provided with a folding bag for storing articles, substantially as specified.

2. The hinged back combined with the inclosing-bag attached thereto for covering the folded up chair and carrying the device, substantially as specified.
