' a citizen of the United States, residing at Maspeth, in the county ot Queens Aand State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Hand- Bags; and l do declare the following to'be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention; such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in hand bags or satchels of that class which may be converted into different sizes by folding and fastening its parts. i j

The' objectv of the invention is to provide a folding handbag capable 'of being made eitherV large or small accordingly as it is to' be used, and which Will present a neat appearance in either folded or extended positions. v t

With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts,ras Will be more fully described and claimed.

to 20, a bag is shown, capable of being extended and the parts arranged to form a `Gladstone Satchel or bag and to be eollapsed and folded to forma small hand bag such as are carried by women and girls for` every day use. This bag is composed of two

This bottom section 44 is provided along its free edge for about one-half of its length, more or less, with a flange or lip 47 extending in the same Vplane as the body portion of said member ing bottom member of the section 41, as will be hereinafter described. I claim as my invention:

1. A folding and extensible handbag comprising a bottom member, side members, and intermediate members disposed between and flexibly connected with said side and bottom members, foldable 'end members connecting said side members and means for detachably connecting said end and bottom members.

2. A folding andextensible handbag comprising a bottom member, side members, and intermediate members disposed between and flexibly connected with said side and bottom members, foldable end members connecting said sidgel members, means for detachably and flaps adapted to be engaged with the opposite' side members for closing said bag when in either foldedor extended position.

3. A folding and extensible handbag comprising a bottom member, side members, and intermediate members disposed between and liexibly connected with said side and bottom members, foldaole end members connecting said side members, said bottom member having Wings flexibly connected with its opposite ends, means on said intermediate members for detacliably engaging said wings when the bag is extended, and means for detachably connecting. said end members and wings. l

4. A folding and extensible handbag comprising a bottom member, side members, and intermediate members disposed between and iiexibly connected with said side and bottom members, foldable end members connecting said side members, and means for detachably connecting said end and bottom meniconnecting said end and-bottom members,

6. A folding and extensible handbag comprising a bottom member, side members, and intermediate members, said intermediate members being arranged between and iexibly connected with said side and bottom members, one of `said intermediate members extended partition secured at its oppositeV ends to s ai'd foldable endy members intermediately of their length, said partition being of a width to correspond with the width of .said end members, and flaps carried by said partition for closing the bag and holding the members in adjusted position.
