any manner efllect or change the natural color or material of draperies nor causes perma- .nent cr arses or wrinkles or other deformities in draperies. Other objects will appear, or become apparent or obvious, or will suggest themselves during the following description of the apparatus or device shown in the acconipanyin g drawing.
In order to illustrate my invention, 1 have embodied the same in a certain device shown in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a window with a shade and a drapery hung thereon and a drapery holdingdevice of my invention holding the lower portion of the drapery toward one side of the window.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view, on a larger scale, of the drapery holding element of Fig. 1 fastened directly to the frame of the win dow.
F 3 is a. perspective view the bracket element which may or may not be used with the element shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. i is a sectional perspective view showing a bracket element on the edgeot the window frame and one holding element in.- serted into the bracket in three positions; one position is shown in. full lines, andthe other positions are shown in dotted lines. a
Fig. 5 is a sectional. perspective view showing a bracket element on the face of the window frame and one/holding element inserted in the bracket in four positions; one position is shown in full lines and the other positions are shown in dotted lines.
Similar reference characters refer to similur parts throughout the views.
Serial No. 196,936.
In the present instance, the holding element (Fig. 2) is made of one piece of material, band iron in the present instance, bent into an angular supporting membercomprising the tongues or portions and 11 at an angle with each other and each having the holes 12 tlnough the same for screws or nails to fasten the holding element directly to the window frame, the lip member 13 to prevent shifting of the holding element in the bracket (hereinafter described) the member 1 1 angular with the portion 11 to offset the loop por tion (hereinafter described) from the win: dow frame for such purposes as clearing the window shade, and the oblong loop memher A comprising the portion 15 angular to the member 1 1, the portion 16 closing one of the shorter sides of the loop A, the portion 17 substantially parallel with the portion 15, and the portion 18 partly closing the other one oi. the shorter sides of the loop A and defining an outwardly curved drapery conlining portion and an inwardly curved drapery retaining portion and an outwardly curved drapery leading portion and leaving the open neck 19 between the end of the portion 18 and the member 14; so that this neck is located near the supporting portion of the holding element and near one of shorter sides of the loop A and angular with one of the longer, sides of the loop A.
In the present instance, the bracket B (Fig. 3) made of one piece of material and comprises the flat portion 20, the doubled up portion 21, and the doubled up portion 22 effect from the portion to provide the.
The bracket B can be fastened either to the edge of the window frame as seen in e or to the face of the window rame seen in Fig. 5 by means of screws or nails through the holes therein.
When the holding element is in position, a portion of the drapery n5 is manually inserted into the loop A through the neck 1%, is gathered in the loop A, and is retained in the loop A by the portion 18 since the neck 19 opens from one side of one of the longer sides of the loop and does not open ends see so that the drapery can-not leave the loop until it is manually moved and guided out of the loop through the neck.
The holding element is painted or laquered or otherwise coated to enhance the appearance of the device and to prevent oxida i on or other action or other changeable condi of the material of the holding element from injuring or blemishing or tarnishing or otherwise detrimenta ly affecting draperies. The fringe element C, shown in Fig. i, has the loop portion 26 telescopable the outer longer side of the loop A and the ornamental fringes 27 depending from the portion 26. The element C can be used for the same purpose as the painting of the holding element.
lVhen the holding element is fastened to the edge of the window frame, as seen in 2, the portions 10 and 11 retain the holding element in position and a portion of the drapery can be inserted into or removed from the loop A thereof through the neck 19. The resiliency of the free end of the portion 17, aided by the round end thereof, prevents injury to the drapery during the insertion or removal thereof into and from the loop.
When the bracket 13 is fastened to the edge of the window frame as seen in Fig. 4, or when it is fastened to the face of the window frame as seen in Fig. 5, the holding element can be inserted therein in various ways or positions; seven different positions being indicatedin Figs. at and 5.
In any of the ways of insertion of the holding element into the bracket, the walls 20 and 22 of the bracket retain the holding element in position in one direction and the lip 23 or the portions 10 or 11 or 14 retain the holding element in another direction since they are all angular to each other and abut a surface of the bracket adjacent to the slot 23 in any of the positions.
The holding element can be used either as a unit in itself or in combination with the bracket as desired.
This combination of the bracket and the advantage; this combination also permits the holder element to retain or hold a drapery in a variety of positions.
I am aware that changes can be made in the form of the elements as well as in the arrange ment thereof shown and described; therefore, without limiting myself to the precise form or structure nor to the precise arrangement thereof as shown and described, I claim 1. A device of the character described including a holder element and an oblong loop member having an open neck adjacent to one of the short sides thereof; said one short side being curved to normally prevent a drapery from leaving said loop member.

12. A device of the character described including a positionally iiXablebra-cket having a slot therein and a holding element having members angular with each other and each adapted to be inserted into said slot and thereby support said holding element on said bracket in different angular relations to said bracket.
13. A device of the characterdescribed including a bracket and a holding element suspendable on said bracket and having a loop member adapted to confine a drapery therein and an open neck to provide an exit and an entrance for said drapery from and into said loop member and positioned so that said drapery can not normally leave said loop member through said open neck. i
14-. A device of the character described in cluding a bracket and a holding element suspendable on said bracket and having a loop member adapted to coniine a drapery therein and an open neck to provide an exit and an entrance for said drapery from and into said loop member and positioned so that said with a slot between portions thereof and a, holding element having a tongue adapted to be inserted into said slot and thereby support the same on said bracket.
In the testimony of the foregoing I aiiix my si gnature.
