Y STEPHEN sTEPANrAN, or/coLUMBUsoHIoT SAMPLE-DISPLAY HOLDER 1 l Application led April 24,
This invention relates to an improved sample holder for use in the display, for advertising or other desired purposes, of various grades of merchandise, and an outstanding 5 object of the invention is the provision of a sample holder wherein is provided a plurality of glass jars rigidly and permanently mounted in connection with the supporting frame of the holder, and wherein the operaiu tive positions of thej ars with respect to the frame are such as to admit of facility in observing or examining the contents of the jars, but wherein the removal of the jars from lthe frame, or of the samples from the jars, is lo' prevented unless the entire frame structure is separated into its component parts.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a sample display holder espeycially adapted for use in promoting `the disf play of various grades and kinds of sand,
gravel and crushed stone and wherein the construction of the holder is such as to permit of the display of these materials in separate containers and wherein the construction of the containers and the frame therefor is such that it is practically impossible to remove said material, mix, lose or wrongly display the same. Y Vith thesev and other objects in view, as will appear as .the description proceeds, the
invention consists in the novel features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangements of parts hereinafter to be fully described and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanyingdrawing: i
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved sample display holder comprising the Apresent invention, l
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof,
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure l,
Figure 4 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of- Figure 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing theimproved sample holder is designated in its entirety by the letter A. This holder is found to comprise a supporting frame, which consists of a base plate 1 adapted to vrest flatly upon a suitable supporting surface and ieee. serial 'No.ioezaa lof sufficientwidth to possessthe: desired der gree of stability so! asV to .preventthe holder from tippinglaterally.z j j Arising centrally andlongitiidinally from the plate l is avertical `wall 2, whichais'fof 55 f invertedY U shapedfformation andl includes `a longitudinally extending body portion 3 'and' spaced depending sides 4.r Theupper surface of the baseV plate l is suitably socketed for ,the
reception of tenons k'providedupon the lower 60 l edges o f the sides 4 and by this construction a firm connection is *providedbetweenl -gthe 'Y plate land the wall 2,; vIn addition, however, wood screws 6 pass'upwardlythroughlftheV r plate l and are threaded into thel lowerend of the sides 4., These screws are,l however, normally concealed. fromj'view and are accessible only by inverting the normal 'position of: theholder. i v n iy f1 Ai g Y In addition, fthe `upper Hsurface ofthe/ plate Vl is providedy with a plurality-,of pockets 7 of a-'diametersufticientto .receivethe lower portion Yof apluralitytzofiglass j'ars, f inl which are retained various merchandised articles or bodiesadapted for-displayz alnf this instance theI jars are of such construction j asvto Vd isplay Vadmirpablylsuch `materials as sand, gravel and finely though it will be understood that the invention is in no manner limited to the display of these particular materials, but may be employed wherever it is found desirable in such capacities for' example as the displayof various grades of motor lubricating oils.`
In ordervto prevent removal of the jars from the hol-der, the loweredge of the body portion 3 ofthe wall V2 has secured thereto a horizontally disposedlongitudinally extending retainingbar 9, which has its under surface socketed as at- 10 for the reception of the 90 removable tops lll of the ars 8. 'j f It will be understood that when the jars 8 I Aare positioned in the pockets 7 and have their v tops 11 positionedi'n thek recesses l0, and the;
wall 2 thenrtightly secured to the base plate' 95,V
1, it will be normally impossible to remove the jars from the holder or to remove the sample from the individual j ars, Where the jars are readily removable it has beenv found` that the'contents thereof are frequently takenqoo crushed stone, ali I out, lost or misplaced, so that confusion and diiiculty is encountered in maintaining the variousv samples in their proper individual order. These difficulties are overcome in the present invention in that in order to remove the jars it is necessary to disconnect the Wall 2 from the base plate 1, and since this involves the removal of the screWsfG it has been found that the samples are preserved and maintained in their original condition. While the jars are locked in position vvithin the frame, never-the-less, nothing has been done to vthe holder Which in anyway Aolostructs a clear and comprehensive view ofthe individual jars, s'o that careful examinations mayvbeimade of the individual samples without necessitating their removal from the holder. The front surface of the body'portion Smay loejprmidedwithy a plurality of card frames l2`by Whichthe different jars and their contents may be readily identified. Also,y the rear'surface of the body portion 3, in connection With the har 9,l may be f vformed with pockets or holders 13 adapted y for the accommodation of leaetsibooklets orjotlier'a'dvertising matter employed in con nectioniV With the display. of the samples.
" j What'isclaimed is:
`A sample display holder, comprising a frame formed to include a base plate having a Vplurality of pockets provided in the upper surface thereof andadapted to receive a plu rality of glass jars,- a verticallydisposed retaining Wall having a slot formed therein for Y i5V the reception of said jars, a bar carried by vsaid Wall and having the under surface thereof pocketed for the reception "of the upper end of saidjarsand 'fastening devices connectingsaid yWall with said base plate Where- 40 bythe jars Will vbe rigidly held 'Within said holder'.
j f `VIn testimony whereof I aflix my signature. Y ySTEPHEN STEPANIAN.
