Description

Dec. 30, 1930. E, o, HENDERSON l 1,787,373
DISPLAY TRAY FOR USE ON STORE GOUNTERS Filed Dec. 3l, 1927 Z S14/vento@ Patented Dec. 30, 1930 SITES ELDER' O. HENDERSON, OF MCALLEN, TEXAS DISPLAY TRAY FOR USE ON STORE COUNTERS Application led December 31, 192'?. Serial No. 243,959.
rlhis invention relates to display trays for use on store counters and more particularly to a display tray adapted to be seated upon and adjustable along the upper end of the backing of a double counter, such as illustrated in my prior application for patent on counters, filed September 13, 1927, Serial No. 219,298.
In the counter shown in the above mentioned application, the backing has an upper face or plate which is provided centrally with a groove. The present invention contemplates a tray adapted to seat upon and be supported from the plate at opposite sides of the groove and having means entering the groove whereby it is held againstv displacement transversely of the plate, while readily adjustable longitudinally thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, which will permit simultaneous exhibition of samples of specially priced goods in combination with indicia indicating the special prices and a legend calling attention to the fact that these goods are offered at special prices.
A further and more specific object of the invention is to provide a device, so that both the goods and accompanying legends will be clearly and conspicuously disposed.
These and other objects I attain by the construct-ion shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a double counter having a display tray constructed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the display tray;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof;
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4--4 of Figure 3.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 10 generally designates a backing for simultaneously serving counters 11 and 12, this backing having at its upper end a plate 13 having formed therein intermediate the edges thereof a longitudinally extending groove 14. In accordance with my invention, l provide a preferably rectangular tray 15 having a bottom which is preferably formed of plyv wood or some other relatively stiff and durable while light material and which is reinforced at its under surface by braces 16 and 17, which are disposed at right angles to one another and extend entirely across the base upon the diagonale thereof.
Arising from the ends of the brace 1G, which is relatively wide, are standards 18 between the upper ends of which is arranged a sign panel 19, which is preferably formed of the same material as the tray base l5. This panel is provided preferably along its lower edge at opposite faces thereof with blackened strips 2O forming blackooards for the reception of price indicia 21 associated with the articles supported from the tray base at corresponding sides thereof. Above the blackened strip, 20, each face of the panel is provided with suitable indicia, such as the words introducing special selections for calling attention to the fact that the goods exhibited are upon special sale. The tray base has preferably secured thereto about the side edges thereof trim strips 22, the upper edges of which project slightly above the upper surface of the base and the lower edges of which conceal from view the braces 16 and 17.
To the lower face of the brace 16, I secure a depending longitudinally extending rib 23 adapted to enter and slide in the groove 14. This rib will prevent transverse displacement of the tray while, at the same time, permitting the tray to be longitudinally shifted to align with bulk storage of articles similar to the displayed articles and arranged upon the sheives 11 and 12.
It will be obvious that a tray of this character may be very readily and cheaply produced and will be extremely durable and efficient in service. Since the construction hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change and modification without materially departing from the spirit of the invention, I do not limit myself to such specific structure except hereinafter claimed.
ll S
I claim 1. In combination, a counter attached support provided with a slot extending longitudinally thereof, a tray greater in Width than the support and provided upon its bottorn face with a centrally arranged reinforcing brace, the brace being slidably arranged upon the support, and a rib shorter than the brace and extending downwardly from the center thereof and slidably arranged in said slot to prevent the transverse displacement of the tray from the support.
2. A counter tray of the character set forth, comprising a rectangular bottom, reinforcing braces secured to the bottom in right angular relation and extending diagonally across the bottom, one of the braces being wider than the other, standards secured to the ends of the wider brace and eX- tending above the bottom, and a member secured te and between the standards.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my signature.
ELDEN O. HENDERSON.
