UNITED STATES v 1,617,850 PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. KELLY, OF YORK, N. Y,
' ORDER-SIGNAL nnvrcn.
Application filed July 23, 1926. Serial No. 124,411.
My invention relates to an order signal device. a I
The device embodying my invention is par-' ticularly well adapted for use in providing amount of milk or like products desired, while not necessarily restricted to this use. The device preferably embodies a body portion or back in the form of a sheet having neck of the milk bottle. On this back or sheet is detachably secured a stack or pad of signal elements or cards. These signal elements or cards are properly ruled and designated for receiving data indicating the amount of milk, cream, or like products to be delivered by the milkman 'to the purchaser. When it is desired to leave a signal 30 parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the device applied to the neck of a milk bottle,
and all of the signal cards used up,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the signal cards, and,
Figure 4 is a similar view showing the signal card inserted into the mouth of the bottle. 4,
In the drawings, 'wherein for the purpose of illustration, is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a body portion or back, preferably 45 formed of'a sheet of cardboard or the like.
This back is provided near its topwith an openingfi for the reception of the. neck of,
a milk bottle 7, as clearly shown in Figure 2. The back preferably has printed thereon, at 8, the representationof a milk bottle with one of the signal cards inserted therein, together with data indicating the use of the device. Beneath the opening 6, the name ofthe company delivering the milk maybe 5 printed, as indicated at 9. Side spaces a signal to the milkman, indicating the an opening which may be inserted over the.
may beprovided, for the reception of advertising matter.
Preferably arranged beneath the opening 6 and between the advertising spaces 10 is a stack or pad 11. embodying a'pluralitv of signal order cards 12. These cards are permanently secured to the back 5 by means of a staple 13, and the cards are transversely perforated or scored, along the line 14,
-whereby they may be readilytorn or re moved from the stack or pad. Each card may be horizontally and vertically ruled, as
indicated at and 16. At the top of the card, as indicated at 17, may be printed instructions, such as Extratodav-deliver. The columns formed by the vertical lines 16 may have designations 18, Qt. PL, indicat ing quarts and pints. The number of quarts or pints may be filled in beneath these designations, andthe names of the products are printed upon the longitudinal lines 15, at the right of the vertical lines. Near the bottom of the vertical lines 16. the lower horizontal lines 15 may have designations 19 suchas, Lb. Doz. Lb., indicating pounds and dozens, and the spaces opposite these desig nations may receive numerals indicating the number of same and opposite these spaces upon the lines 15 are printed the names of the products, as shown. It is thus seen that the card is properlv ruled and designated for the reception of data indicating the desired oducts.
- Near its center, each card has slits 20, which extendinwardly from the outer edges of the cards. for substantial distances. and afford shoulders 21. That portion of the card beneath the slits 20, may be termed an attaching portion, and is designated by the numeral 22. This attaching portion preferably has printed thereon a hand 23 drawn to indicate that the same is hold ing the signal order card, and ,is presenting it to the milkman: The body portion or back 5 has printed thereon beneath the pad, an arrangement of data 24 which is identical with such arrangement printed upon the I In the use of the device, the dc livers the same to the customer, with a full bottle of milk, by placing the same upon the neck of the bottle, as indicated in Figure 2. The user removes the device from the milk bottle, and when desired, removes a card from the pad, and fills in the amount of the products desired, upon the designated portion of the card. The lower attaching portion of the card may be held in the fingers as indicated in Figure 3 and flexed and insorted in the mouth of the bottle, as shown in Figure 4. Particular attention is called to the fact that the slits 20 permit of the card being so flexed,- aud in addition, the shoulders 21 provided thereon, prevent the card from falling into the bottle. The milkman, of course, reads the data from the card and leaves the desired amount of goods. When the last card has beenused up and the pad exhausted, the last order is made on the designated space 24, of the back 5, and this back is then hung upon the neck of the milk bottle, by the customer, indicating to the milkman the desired order and also indicating that the pad is exhausted and that he should leave a new order device. it is thus seen that the device has means whereby it may be readily delivered to the user with the milk, and returned to the milkman when it is exhausted as a means of indicating that a new order device is desired.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention, herewith shown and described, is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim 1. A signal order device comprising a back sheet having means whereby it may be removably mounted upon a milk bottle, a pad of signal order cards secured to the back sheet, the cards being individually detachable from the back sheet, each card havin suitable designations for the ordering of prbducts, each card being detachable from the pad and adapted for insertion within the milk bottle, said back sheet having a portion suitably designated for the ordering of products, the designated portion of the back sheet being-covered by said pad, the arrangement being such that after the last signal order card has been detached from the back sheet, the order may be made upon the designated portion of the back sheet which is then placed upon the milk bottle and serves to place the order and also as a signal that the pad is exhausted.
2. A signal order device comprising a back sheet provided near its forward end with an opening for receiving the neck or a milk bottle, said back sheet having a' suitably designated order space whereby the desired products may be indicated therein, a pad of signal order cards secured to the back sheet, said pad being smaller than the back sheet and covering the order space of the back sheet, each card being individually detachable from the pad, each card having suitable designations for the ordering of desired products, each cardhaving a portion thereon adapted for the insertion within the neck of a milk bottle, the arrangement being such that after all of the signal cards have been used up the order may be indicated upon the order space of the back sheet which may be then applied to the milk bottle and will not only indicate the desired order but will also indicate that the pad is exhausted. I
3. A signal order device COIIIPI'ISlDg a back sheet having means whereby it may be 'detachably mounted upon a milk bottle, said cate that the pad is exhausted.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN D. KELLY.
