LEO COHEN, 0F MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK.
DETACHABLE INDICATOR FOR MERCHANDISE.
Application filed June 2,
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEO COHEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mount Vernon, county of estchester, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Detachable Indicators for Merchandise, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to afford simple, inexpensive, but effective means for detachably labeling commercial packages and articles in such manner that details relating thereto are rendered conveniently accessible for observation and reference, the indicator also being adapted for use as a check to insure the replacement of goods exhausted by sale, etc., and for other purposes hereinafter set forth ;--my invention comprising an indicator card and holder therefor, the latter being provided with elastic resilient means for detachably securing it to commercial packages of various sizes and shape, so that the device may be continuously and successively applied to stock merchandise held for retail trade.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating the application of my detachable indicator to a cylindrical container, the latter being shown in dotted lines;
Fig. 2, is perspective view of my indicator as detachably applied to a rectangular container, the latter being shown in dotted. lines;
Fig. 3, is a front detail view of the register insert card or label tablet.
Fig. 4, is a transverse section of the insert holder and register tablet, taken upon plane of line 4-4, Fig. 2;
F igf 5, is a top view of the device showing a modification in the form of elastic resilient retaining band.
My improved commodity label and indicator, considered as a unitary device, consists essentially of a memorandum insert tablet T, a holder H, therefor, and one or more elastic resilient bands B, connected with the latter, and by means of which the device may be temporarily and detachably afiixed to a package or container C, of goods tobe disposed of at retail.
The memorandum insert tablet T, may be made of paper, cardboard, celluloid, or any desired material of appropriate flexible character, and adapted to have imposed on Specification of Letters Patent.
1921. Serial'No. 474,508.
one or both. faces thereof memoranda relating to the commodity inclosed in the package or container U, to which my indicator is to be attached.
The holder H, made of any suitable pliable material, so as to adapt itself readily to the external configuration of the commodity container C, to which it may be applied, and to fit various shapes of such containers, consists essentially of an integument adapted to receive and retain the flexible insert tablet T, for which purpose it is formed with an elongate opening it, at top. It is also formed on its front side with a sight opening it, the edges of which constitute a frame for the face of the tablet T, when the latter is positioned in said integument H.
The elastic resilient bands B, by which the holder H, is temporarily attached to a package, are preferably composed, in whole or in part, of india rubber, but may obviously be otherwise constructed with like result in so far as attachment to the commodity container C, is concerned. Thus in the modification shown in Fig. 5, of the drawings, an elastic resilient retractable spring'b, is interposed between flexible ligaments Z), Z), attached to the integument H,- said contractible spring 6, acting as a constrictor to bind the device temporarily to a commodity container C, substantially in the same manner indicated in Figs. 1 and 2, in which rubber bands are presumably used for the purpose.
As indicated in Fig. 3, of the drawings, the face of the indicator tablet T, to be exposed through the frontal aperture in the holder H, may bear data relating to the retailing of the merchandise stored in the package or container C, while the back of the tablet may have imposed upon it information relating thereto of a more confidential character, as may be deemed necessary or expedient.
My detachable indicator is designed for temporary attachment, in practice, to a package or a container the contents of which is to be last disposed of in a series of such articles exposed or set aside for sale. Vhen the salesman reaches this last package or article he detaches the indicator, which then becomes a means of warning and information for effecting the replacement of the goods already disposed of by sale,-the detached indicator becoming a tangible notification that may be attented to subsequently, and relieving the clerk or salesman of the necessity of immediately making an entry of the fact. In other words, he does not have to neglect his customer, nor the exigencies of trade, to make the memorandum before he forgets the circumstance. as the detached label or indicator serves the purpose, and insures attention, in due time.
Furthermore the use of my detachable indicator as above set forth obviates the necessity for marking each article of like merchandise in a series thereof selected for immediate sale, as the salesman can always ascertain by a glance at the package so labeled the price thereof, and other facts relating thereto which it may be desirable for him to know and take into consideration.
'What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
detachable temporary indicator for commercial packages of the character designated, comprising a flexible memorandum insert tablet, a pliable holder for said flexible insert tablet formed with a frontal sight aperture, an elastic resilient band connected and coincidental with the upper edge of said holder, and an elastic resilient band connected medially with the side edges of said holder and adapted to temporarily and detachably secure the device to commodity containers of various shapes, substantially as andfor the purpose described.
