FILING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 191$.
Application filed May 17, 1913. serial in. 768,334.
To all whom it may concern: I Be it knoyvn that I, BEVERLY MCDONALD of the town of Picton, in the county oi Prince Edward, in the Province of Ontario, Canada have invented certain new and use- Tntprdvinents in Filing Devices, of which the followin is the specification.
My invention re ates toimprovements in filing devices, and the-object of the invention is to provide a simple means for filing check slips and the like so that they can be readily and quickly gotten at, and b which the total amount of each may be easi y made visible without removing the s'li s from the file, and it consists essentially o a series of counter check slip. containing pockets comprising a stifl' hard back piece and a soft ront piece, having a cut away ort-ion forming one side thereof,-and an in icating card having a receiving pocket integral with the back piece and" extending upwardly from the upper end of such ba'ck piece, as hereinafter more particularly Figure 1. is a general pers ective view of my file showing a series 0 counter check slip ockets arranged therein. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective detail of one of the counter check SllP pockets showing the indicating card withdrawn from its holding pocket.
'In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding. parts in each figure.
A is a receptacle of any suitable form provided with a support A of any suitable form designed to support the counter check sli pockets in an inclined position within the receptacle. I
B are a SGIIQSIOIE indicating counter check' slip containing pockets, each pocket comrises a stiflf hard back piece 3' preferably ormedof thin sheet metal having an upturned lip B at its lower edge in which is inserted a soft front piece B 'of any suitable material such as linen, or'paper. -The-front'- referably cut-away in an in-' piece B is clined direction from its} lower right hand corner as clearly shown in Fig. 3 thereby clearly exhibiting the upper right hand corner of a counter check slip 1. The counter check slips are ordinary counter check slips arranged in any suitable way and provided at their right hand corner with a space 2 for cohtaining the amount to date, or in other words, the total amount owin by the customer after the bill indicated y the correexplained by 7 contain petty or transitory accounts.
. together.
sponding counter .check slip has been totaled up.
B is an upward extension ;of the. back piece B provided with a turned over lip B and lips B and B stamped up at each lower corner of such extension piece.
C is an indicating card designed to be held in the pocket formed by the lips B, B", B", as indicated by dotted. lines 1n Fig. 3. I have shown three of these indicating pockets in Fig. 1, namely, pockets indicating A, B, C. Between these pockets are supplementary pockets E similar in form to the pockets above described and having indicating cards D on whichis written the name of the customer. All the customers names beginning with A are arranged behind the indicating pocket containing the letter A, and the customers names beginning with B are arranged behind the indicating pocket containing the letter B, and so on throughout the alphabet. The pocket containers having indicating cards, having the customers names written'thereon are used for long standing accounts. The pockets formed on the indicating containers may be utilized to will readily be understood from this description'that when the merchant desires to refer to any account, he may readily place his fingers upon'the pocket containin such account, and withdraw it from the e.' If
he merely wishes to find out the amount owing by any customer, he simply raises the corresponding pocket until the total amountindicated at 2 (see Fig. 3) appears above the remaining pockets. He can then carry over such amount to the next check slip if desired or refer such amount to the customer. To hold the pockets in place I preferably provide a spring 3 bearing against the front pocket so as to hold the pockets What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a filing device, a check slip container comprising a. stifi' back piece and a front piece formed of pliable material attached at the bottom 'to theback piece and having a cut away portion on one side thereof, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In afil'ing device a receptacle, a series of check slip containers comprising a stilt back piece and a pliable front piece and a visible portion bearing an indicating letter and a series. of intermediate pockets also formed'with a .stiif back piece and a pliable front piece and visibly bearing the cus tfiomers name, as and for the purpose speci- 3. In a filingdevice, a check slip container comprising asheet metal back piece having an upturned lip at its lower edge and a flexible front piece secured in the lip and cut away at one side from the bottom in an inclined direction, as and for the purpose specified.
4. In a filing device a check slip container I comprising a sheet metal back piece having an upwardly extending portion having an overturned lip; at its upper end and for wardly stamped lips in proximity to its lower corners and designed to receive an indicating card and afront piece formed of pliable material attached at the bottom to said backpiece and havinf'g a portion cut away from one side thereo as and forthe purpose specified,
BEVERLY MCDONALD.
