Description
DISPLAY TRAY AND cass.-
vSlIECJIFIIC,A11-0N forming part of Patent Nm 714,427, dated November 25, 1902.
a appresso-.l and member 31,1961. serial In. 37,956. (nu model.)
,To JZ rch-om, it muy concern.:
Beit known that I, EDWARD F. WINTERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas'and State of Ohio, have invented a useful and new and original Invention in Display Trays and Case-s; and
I' do hereby decla-rethe following to be a full,
clear, and exact' description of the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to display-cases, and more particularly to .aA rack provided with meansl for containing a supply of the articles displayed and means for retaining a sample in au `exposed place.
The object in view is the construction ofa 4display-case` made yup of a series of super- `posed compartments, each provided Withan .exposed face, set upon a diagonal plane at izo an acute angle to the plane of the rear wall of. the receptacle, whereby the exposed face may ne the :nore readily seen than when a sehso riesof the snpcrposed receptacles is held ina vertical position.
`Thefurther object of the invention is to provide a display-case formed with a front `faeehaving; a depression therein, the de pression being adapted to contain a sample of the articles held within the receptacle, and means for retaining a sample within the said depression.
lViththese and :other objects in vieu the .n invention consists in certain novel construc tions, combinations. and arrangements of' parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. a l 4 In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view, of a portion of .broken aivay for the saving of space. g represents a longitudinal transverse section displaycase embodying the features of the present invention, parts of the case being Fig. E?
through same. l Y
The present invention involves the con struction of a display-case designed to be used l in stores or other places lWhere the saving of i space isa material objeetfand the const-ruction ofthe present case is Such that a series of receptacles may be arranged for contain-A ing articles -to be sold, each provided vwith meansforexposing a sample of the article i contained," the facesof which receptacle car.
the case as well as ata distance from the same,\vhereby a. person behind a counter may look upward and see all of the articles displayed without the necessity of leaving his 6o position and passing across the room in order to clearly see the samples upon the boxes, as
is now commonly necessary from the present form of cases employed. It isalso observed thatthe samples in the common form of dis- 65 play boxes are`exposed .to the' atmosphere and soon become Shop worn, andnorf' der to obviate this difficulty and to attain thedesired results suggested above as Well as acquire other valuable functions herein- 7o after mentioned I employ, preferably, a "er` ticallyarranged 'rear wall, as 1, carrying 'a' series of superpos'ed boxes or containingreceptacles, as :2, of any preferred forni and i size. Each of the boxes f2 is formed with a 7 5 front face, as 3, set diagonally at an acute angle to the vertical plane of wall 1, each of the faces 3 being formed with ardepression or cut-away portion, as 4, of any'pref ferr-ed size and shape, the upper edge of 8o the face or front wall 3 being slotted longi'"A i tudinally, as at 5, for permitting the passage therethrough of tho plate of glass or transparent material, as G, which glass in opera.
tion restsvin a suitable groove, as 7, in the 85 wall 3 at the lower end of depression 4 and may be held in position within similarI grooves-.
at the side edges of said depression, it being apparent that said plate may be removed and replaced at will by being passed through 9c.
the slot 5.
In operation the wall 1 is arranged. in a vertical position, receptacles 2 are filled with any desired articles, and a sample of thesame is placed in the respective depression 4 and 95 the plate 6 is ypassed down over the same for inclos'ing it and preventing the injurious effects of exposure to the atmosphere.A
It willof course be apparent that the front face o'f wall 3 of each of the receptacles 2 may 'rco be made in two parts 'for forming the compartment 4 instead of being made of 'one piece as a depression or cut-away portion. Y
of material and the said compartment formed Of course, as clearly illustrated-in Fig. 1,.
I contemplate employing as many of the receptaeles as. may be desired extending in the same horizontal plane and also as many snperposed 'tiers may be preferred. A
, Having Vthus fully described my invention,
or rows of v'receptacles 'as what I elaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is In a 'displa vcase,` the combination with a, suitable rear wail, of a, contziiningeceptacle mounted thereon havingr afrontface provided with a depression or ent-away portion designed to eontain al'. ar icle, a slot vbeing signature in presence ofv two Witnesses. 1 f f;
EDWARD 1,1 WINTERS.
