Description

AUS- 6, l929- c. R, wEYMoUTH i v v1,723,831
FOLDABLE SEAT .Filed Feb. 2, 1928 memup Patented Aug. 6, 1929.
UNHTE STTES CARL R. V/'EYMOUTI-, OF NEWIEORT, MANE.
FOLDABLE SEAT.
.Application led. February 2, 1928.
The invention aiins to provide a new and improved, foldable, flexible seat for hunters and others, said seat being provided with fastening means for securing its two halves in folded position and with means whereby it may be suspended from the users belt, in
y folded condition, when not in use.
A further aim is to provide a seat of the class set forth formed of waterproof inaterial, at least at its lower side. Thus, when it is necessary to place the seat upon any wet or damp surface," incident to use, the moisture cannot permeate through the seat to the users clothing.
A still further object is to provide a seat embodying,` sheepskin with its natural wool attached, and a protecting sheet of waterproof material, to which the sheepskin is secured, providing a comfortable waterproof seat.
lilith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description being' accomplished by reference to the acconr panyingl drawing.
Fig'. l is a side elevation showin one 'forni of the seat in folded position and suspended from a belt.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the seat shown in Fig. l, disconnected from the belt and unfolded.
Fifi; 3 is a top plan View of the seat shown in Figs. l and 2.
Fig'. t is an edge view of the seat illustrated in the preceding figures.
Fig. 5 is a top plan view showing a scat of somewhat modified form.
The drawing` above briefly described, illus trates 'the preferred construction and while such construction will be herein specifically explained, it is to be understood that within the scope of the invention as claimed, minor variations may be rnade.
rlhe seat is denoted in a general way by the character S. This seat is formed of flexible sheet material and may be of square or rec tanp'ular form as seen in a number of the .d .gurcs of the drawing, or may be of other shape, such as circular, as seen in Fig. 5.
Serial No. s531399.
The seat is foldable along a folding line G, so that its two halves 7 8, lie against each other, and these halves are provided with snap fasteners 9 1() at edges thereof, remote from the foidinp,1 line, said fasteners being ei'igapeable with each other to hold the seat in folded position.
@ne of the seat halves is provided with straps ll embodying loops l2 for engagement with the users belt 13, permitting suspension of the folder seat from the belt when it is not in use. iii/Then use of the seat is desired however, it may be readily unbuckled from the belt 13 and placed in any convenient position.
Preferably, the seat is waterproof, at least at its lower side, so that when it is necessary to lay it upon a damp or wet surface, the moisture cannot permeate through the seat to the users clothing. In attaining,` this end, I prefer to employ a flexible sheet 1.4i of desired size and shape, carrying),` the straps ll and the fasteners 9-10, and a sheet l5 of sheepskin stitched or otherwise secured to said sheet lt and provided with its natural wool 16, which wool is exposed, preferably, although no-t necessarily. Whether exposed or not, the wool insures that a soft co1nfortable seat shall be provided..
The device is rather simple and inexpensive, yet is very convenient and desirable for hunters and others ndingr it necessary to sit upon convenient objects in the open. It may be easily carried by the users belt, in com pact folded condition and when its use is necessary, it may be quickly and easily detached from the belt and placed upon the ground, upon a rock, log, etc. lin case of wet weather, the woolen or other seat portion is protected against moisture by the waterproof sheet 14. and hence the user and his clothing are also protected.
Attention is again invited to the fact that within the scope of the invention as claimed, variations may be made. For instance, instead of using the sheepskin and woolen upper portion for the seat, heavy cloth or other desired material could be empioyed, and instead olf the specific snap fasteners 'I and straps herein. dselosed, equivalent halves in folded position, und Suspenders 10 fasteners and suspenders may be used. connected to said edge of one of said halves, I Claim: said Suspenders having` means for connecting -A flexible seat of sheet material Waterthem with the users belt to suspend the '5 proof at least at its lower side, one half of folded seat therefrom.
said seat being foldable onto the other half In testimony whereof I have hereunto when not in use, fasteners at the edges of said aixed my signature. seat remote from the folding line ofthe latter for engagement With each other to hold said CARL R. WEYMOUTH.
