(Cl. 2974) The present invention generally relates to an article of :omfort for persons engaged in sporting activities either 15 a participant or an observer and generally is in the form of a pad or cushion for use when sitting upon various lurfaces for a considerable length of time.

An existing problem to many persons engaged in sportng activities, such as hunting, fishing, skiing, observing larious games and the like, is the discomfort encountered when it is necessary to sit for long periods of time on a 'ough or uneven surface which may be damp or cold. in view of this problem, it is the primary object of the present invention to provide a seat pad that is attached iirectly to the belt of the person employing the device so '.hat it cannot be accidentally left or lost when the person lsing it leaves the seat on which he was sitting.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a teat pad having a clip connected thereto which may be quickly attached to the belt, pants, skirt, or any similar article of apparel making it easy to be worn by men, women, or children as desired.

A further important feature of the present invention is provide a seat pad of the character described in the preceding objects that is constructed in such a manner that it may be folded into a neat compact pad for ease of :arrying at the waist.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a. seat pad which is light in weight, compact, constructed of waterproof vinyl or the like for protecting the user from wet seats or ground dampness, with the interior of the device being constructed of a foam rubber or the like, thus providing all the comfort of a foam rubber cushion.

Another feature of the invention stemming from its compactness is the capability of the device to be carried in a suitacase, bag, car compartment, tackle box or any other suitable place.

These, together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent, reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the seat pad in folded condition for transport when attached to the waist of a person;

FIGURE 2 is a rear view of the seat pad illustrating it in position for use;

FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the seat pad with a corner thereof broken away illustrating the construction thereof; and

FIGURE 4 is a reduced end elevational view illustrating the seat pad in folded condition and illustrating the manner in which the elastic strap retains it in folded position.

Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral generally designates the seat pad of the present invention which is in the form of a generally rectangular pad of foam rubber 12 or any other equivalent material having a covering 14 of waterproof material, such as a vinyl plastic or the like, which enables the device to be easily folded into a compact condition which at the same time providing an adequate cushion having waterproof characteristics. Attached to one end of the pad is a supporting strap 16 by virtue of stitching, rivets, or any other suitable fastening device 18. At the outer end of the strap 16, there is provided a generally U-shaped clip 20 for clipping over the belt 22 of a person 24 using the device. The clip 20 is also adapted to engage the waist of a garment such as a pair of trousers, a skirt, or the like, thus connecting the seat pad 10 to the garment so that it cannot become lost if a person leaves a seat without thinking of the seat pad.

The seat pad 10 is employed whenever the person is sitting on a surface, thus cushioning the person and adding to the comfort of the person using the device. When the device has been used and it is desired to merely transport the seat pad, the seat pad is folded into three generally equal portion as illustrated in FIGURE 4. An elastic strap 26 is attached to the free end of the strap 16 and the outer end thereof includes a snap fastener element 28 for engagement with the corresponding snap fastener element 30 on the end of a corresponding elastic strap 32, whereby the

26 and 32 may encircle the folded pad for retaining it in its folded condition so that it may be easily transported in an out-of-the-way position "while the person is walking to and from the area in which he was sitting.

The present invention may be constructed in any suitable color and it cannot be accidentally lost due to its attachment to the belt, pants or skirt by virtue of the slip-on clip, and the strap 16 may also be of any suitable color and may be elastic for purposes of resiliently supporting the seat pad in the event the pad becomes entangled and also to provide some latitude in the relationship between the seat belt and the pad during normal movements while sitting.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A foldable seat pad adapted to be attached to and carried by a belt of a user, said seat pad comprising in combination, a substantially rectangular pad-like cushion formed from flexible material, said cushion having a pair of side edges and a pair of end edges, a flexible strap having one end portion thereof rigidly secured to one side surface of said cushion at a point adjacent one of said side edges and one of said end edges, said strap being oriented substantially in parallel relation to said one of said side edges and projecting beyond said one of said end edges, a clip provided at the other end of said flexible strap for attaching the same to a belt, said strap being sufiiciently long to permit a user to sit on said cushion while said clip remains attached to a belt, a flexible strip having its intermediate portion secured to the end of said strap adjacent said clip and projecting laterally to opposite sides of the strap, said cushion when not in use being foldable upon itself into a substantially flat roll wherein said side edges of the cushion'are disposed at the ends of the roll, said' strip being sufiiciently long to extend in opposite directions from said strap around the roll formed by the folded cushion with the ends of the strip overlapping each other, and coacting fastener elements provided at the ends of said strip for separably connecting the same together and retaining the cushion in its folded position at the users belt.
